Parkinson's disease psychosis, characterized by confusion, visual hallucinations, and delusions is a nightmare for the patients and caregivers. Classic neuroleptics aggravate the motor symptoms, hence the need for an effective atypical antipsychotic. Currently Pimavanserin is the only approved drug for Parkinson's disease psychosis (PDP), however it is not readily available.

The gut microbiota produces metabolites that enrich the host metabolome and play a part in host physiology, including brain functions. Yet the biological mediators of this gut-brain signal transduction remain largely unknown. In this study, the possible role of the gut microbiota metabolite indole, originating from tryptophan, was investigated.

Purpose: Prison settings have limited resources, and it is of particular interest to analyze which antipsychotics are commonly prescribed in these conditions and to determine the prevalence of the adverse effects.
Design/methodology/approach: A cross-sectional, epidemiological survey was used to measure the prevalence of antipsychotic prescribing among adult prisoners in Sremska Mitrovica Prison in 2020.
Findings: The prevalence of antipsychotic use was 7.

Atypical antipsychotic clozapine has a special therapeutic impact on tardive dyskinesia and treatment-resistant schizophrenia. Clozapine also has important adverse effects such as epileptic seizures. For this reason, most clinicians avoid using clozapine in patients with schizophrenia and epilepsy.
