We identified 23 cases of respiratory acquisition linked to a colonized plumbing system at a new hospital addition. We conducted a genomic and epidemiologic investigation to assess for clonal acquisition of from hospital water sources and improve understanding of genetic distances between isolates. We performed whole-genome sequencing on 28 .

Article Synopsis
  • Model species like Arabidopsis thaliana are essential for advancing plant science and improving our understanding of the land plant evolutionary tree.
  • The research highlights how Arabidopsis can serve as a bridge to explore genetic resources across the entire Brassicales order, linking traits and evolutionary patterns.
  • The authors advocate for establishing a "model clade" approach and propose creating global networks to enhance collaborative studies on Brassicales-wide traits.

Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) has recently been used to investigate acquisition of Mycobacterium abscessus. Investigators have reached conflicting conclusions about the meaning of genetic distances for interpretation of person-to-person transmission. Existing genomic studies were limited by a lack of WGS from environmental M.

Molecular mechanisms of Cl transport in fishes: New insights and their evolutionary context.

J Exp Zool A Ecol Integr Physiol

February 2021

Department of Biology, Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, New York, USA.

With remarkably few exceptions, aquatic vertebrates maintain internal Cl homeostasis despite strong and sometimes fluctuating Cl concentration gradients between extracellular fluids and external environments. In this "Perspective," we discuss recent advances in the understanding of epithelial Cl transport at the molecular level within key osmoregulatory organs in fishes. New insights into mechanisms for epithelial Cl transport in basal lineages are highlighted to provide an evolutionary context.

Mapping global and local coevolution across 600 species to identify novel homologous recombination repair genes.

Genome Res

March 2019

Department of Developmental Biology and Cancer Research, Institute for Medical Research-Israel-Canada, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Jerusalem 91120, Israel.

The homologous recombination repair (HRR) pathway repairs DNA double-strand breaks in an error-free manner. Mutations in HRR genes can result in increased mutation rate and genomic rearrangements, and are associated with numerous genetic disorders and cancer. Despite intensive research, the HRR pathway is not yet fully mapped.
