Rationale: Titanium is a component of various construction materials, which is often used at high temperature and in an oxidizing atmosphere. Thermally stable even at high temperatures, titanium compounds may appear in the condensed phase. To predict the possibility of existence of gaseous associates formed by titanium oxides it is important to know their thermodynamic characteristics. Until the present investigation no gaseous salts of titanium were known.
Methods: Measurements were performed by high-temperature Knudsen effusion mass spectrometry with a MS-1301 mass spectrometer. Vaporization was carried out using molybdenum and tungsten effusion cells containing samples of pure Au, Ti3O5 and SiO2. A theoretical study of gaseous titanium molybdates and tungstates in different spin states was performed by quantum chemical density functional theory (DFT) B3LYP and M06 methods.
Results: On the basis of the equilibrium constants of gaseous reactions, the standard formation enthalpies of gaseous TiMoO3 (-424 ± 28 kJ/mol), TiWO3 (-400 ± 22 kJ/mol), TiMoO4 (-795 ± 29 kJ/mol), TiWO4 (-750 ± 24 kJ/mol), TiMoO5 (-1146 ± 23 kJ/mol) and TiWO5 (-1125 ± 22 kJ/mol) at 298 K were determined. Energetically favorable structures were localized and vibrational frequencies were evaluated in the harmonic approximation. Natural atomic charges, bond orders, and valence indices were calculated for all relevant structures.
Conclusions: The stability of gaseous species TiMoOn and TiWOn (n = 3, 4, 5) was confirmed by high-temperature mass spectrometry. A number of gas-phase reactions involving titanium-containing gaseous salts were studied. Enthalpies of reactions of gaseous TiXOn (X = Mo, W; n = 3, 4, 5) formation were evaluated theoretically and the obtained values are in agreement with the experimental ones.

Garlic and chili are widely used as food flavoring agents in food cooking, therefore might be accumulated in large amounts in food waste (FW). The effects of garlic and chili on the dissolution, hydrolysis, acidification and methanation in an anaerobic co-digestion system were investigated during the combined co-digestion of FW and excess sludge (ES). Additionally, the transformation of phosphorus form and microbial metabolism changes during the process were analyzed.

The effect of essential oils (EOs) of 22 species and varieties of essential oil plants on the mental performance of elderly people when they inhaled air containing EOs in a gaseous state at a concentration of 1 mg/m3 of air was studied. For the study, a word recognition test with missing letters and a proofreading test were used. It has been established that recognition of words with missing letters is stimulated for a short (10-20 min) duration of exposure to EOs, and then the effect fades away.

Plastics are basically long-chain hydrocarbon compound synthesizes from nonrenewable liquid petroleum products. Since plastics have special and variety of features such as easy availability and handling, light weight, energy efficiency, nondegradable nature, cheap, faster production, and design flexibility, it has gained wide popularity in short time period and has become indispensable part of day-to-day life. The increasing usage and production of plastic with exponential rate have resulted in increasing plastic waste disposal problems which may cause adverse effect on environment and human health.

Thermal processes are emerging as promising solutions to recovering phosphorus and other nutrient elements from anaerobic digestates. The feasibility of nutrient element recovery depends largely on the fates of nutrient elements and heavy metals during thermal processing. This study assesses the partitioning of macronutrients (N, P, K, Na, Ca and Mg) and heavy metals (Zn, Cu, and Mn) between condensed and gaseous phases during thermal conversion of cattle slurry digestates in gas atmospheres of pyrolysis, combustion, and gasification processes.
