Prevalence of cardiac arrhythmias increases gradually with age; however, specific rhythm disturbances can appear even prior to birth and markedly affect foetal development. Relatively little is known about these disorders, chiefly because of their relative rarity and difficulty in diagnosis. In this review, we cover the most common forms found in human pathology, specifically congenital heart block, pre-excitation, extrasystoles and long QT syndrome. In addition, we cover pertinent literature data from prenatal animal models, providing a glimpse into pathogenesis of arrhythmias and possible strategies for treatment.

In every heartbeat, cardiac muscle cells perform excitation-Ca signaling-contraction (EC) coupling to pump blood against the vascular resistance. Cardiomyocytes can sense the mechanical load and activate mechano-chemo-transduction (MCT) mechanism, which provides feedback regulation of EC coupling. MCT feedback is important for the heart to upregulate contraction in response to increased load to maintain cardiac output.

Background: The aim of this study is to identify factors associated with the development of long-term severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR) following mitral valve replacement (MVR).
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted involving 308 patients who underwent single-valve MVR at Xuzhou Central Hospital between April 2017 and December 2022. Preoperative color Doppler ultrasound indicated that all patients had either no or mild to moderate tricuspid regurgitation.
