Efficient photochemical reactions on a surface are of great importance for their potential applications in optoelectronic devices. In this work, a highly efficient photodimerization reaction of an olefin cocrystal built from two trans-1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylenes (4,4'-bpe) and two isophthalic acid molecules via N···H-O hydrogen bonds in between was achieved in a nanotemplate on a highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) surface. 4,4'-Bpe molecules first undergo the trans-cis isomerization followed by [2+2] photodimerization in the nanotemplate on HOPG upon UV irradiation. The efficiency of the isomerization as well as the photodimerization in the presence of the nanotemplate is much higher than that in its absence. These results provide a facile way to achieve highly efficient photodimerization of olefins on a large scale on surfaces.

ConspectusCovalent triazine frameworks (CTFs) are a novel class of nitrogen-rich conjugated porous organic materials constructed by robust and functional triazine linkages, which possess unique structures and excellent physicochemical properties. They have demonstrated broad application prospects in gas/molecular adsorption and separation, catalysis, energy conversion and storage, etc. In particular, crystalline CTFs with well-defined periodic molecular network structures and regular pore channels can maximize the utilization of the features of CTFs and promote a deep understanding of the structure-property relationship.

Proteic plasmid addiction systems, such as the control of cell death (Ccd), have been used for efficient plasmid DNA recombination. The CcdB toxin, which has a relatively long sequence of 309 bp, has been the predominant choice for this purpose. However, the need for shorter peptide toxins has emerged.

The rising global demand for air conditioning systems, driven by increasing temperatures and urbanization, has led to higher energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. HVAC systems, particularly AC, account for nearly half of building energy use, highlighting the need for efficient cooling solutions. Passive cooling, especially radiative cooling, offers potential to reduce cooling loads and improve energy efficiency.

Hyperglycemia and bacterial colonization in diabetic wounds aberrantly activate Nod-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) in macrophages, resulting in extensive inflammatory infiltration and impaired wound healing. Targeted suppression of the NLRP3 inflammasome shows promise in reducing macrophage inflammatory disruptions. However, challenges such as drug off-target effects and degradation via lysosomal capture remain during treatment.

A multiomic study of the structural characteristics of type A and B influenza viruses by means of highly spectrally resolved Raman spectroscopy is presented. Three virus strains, A H1N1, A H3N2, and B98, were selected because of their known structural variety and because they have co-circulated with variable relative prevalence within the human population since the re-emergence of the H1N1 subtype in 1977. Raman signatures of protein side chains tyrosine, tryptophan, and histidine revealed unequivocal and consistent differences for pH characteristics at the virion surface, while different conformations of two C-S bond configurations in and methionine rotamers provided distinct low-wavenumber fingerprints for different virus lineages/subtypes.
