Fluorescence-activated droplet sorting is an important tool for droplet microfluidic workflows, but published approaches are unable to surpass throughputs of a few kilohertz. We present a new geometry that replaces the hard divider separating the outlets with a gapped divider, allowing sorting over ten times faster.

Cardiovascular diseases account for ~40% of global deaths annually. This situation has revealed the urgent need for the investigation and development of corresponding drugs for pathogenesis due to the complexity of research methods and detection techniques. An in vitro cardiomyocyte model is commonly used for cardiac drug screening and disease modeling since it can respond to microphysiological environmental variations through mechanoelectric feedback.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes joint damage and progressive destruction of adjacent cartilage and bones. Quick and accurate detection of rheumatoid factors (RF) and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies (anti-CCP) in serum is effective in diagnosing RA and preventing its progression. However, current methods for detecting these two biomarkers are costly, time-consuming, labor-intensive, and require specialized equipment.

A novel dual-mode microfluidic sensing platform integrating photoelectrochemical (PEC) and fluorescence (FL) sensors was developed for the sensitive monitoring of heart fatty acid binding protein (h-FABP). First, BiVO/AgInS (BVAIS) composites with excellent photoelectric activity were synthesized as sensing matrices. The BVAIS heterojunction with a well-matched internal energy level structure provided a stable photocurrent.

Mineral precipitation is ubiquitous in natural and engineered environments, such as carbon mineralization, contaminant remediation, and oil recovery in unconventional reservoirs. The precipitation process continuously alters the medium permeability, thereby influencing fluid transport and subsequent reaction kinetics. The diversity of preferential precipitation zones controls flow and transport efficiency as well as the capacity of mineral sequestration and immobilization.
