The efficient transformation of the hexadentate bispidinol 1 into carbamate derivatives yields functional bispidines enabling convenient functionalization for targeted imaging. The BODIPY-substituted bispidine 3 combines a coordination site for metal ions, such as radioactive (64) Cu(II) , with a fluorescent unit. Product 3 was thoroughly characterized by standard analytical methods, single crystal X-ray diffraction, radiolabeling, and photophysical analysis. The luminescence of ligand 3 was found to be strongly dependent on metal ion coordination: Cu(II) quenches the BODIPY fluorescence, whereas Ni(II) and Zn(II) ions do not affect it. It follows that, in imaging applications with the positron emitter (64) Cu(II) , residues of its origin from enriched (64) Ni and the decay products (64) Ni(II) and (64) Zn(II) , efficiently restore the fluorescence of the ligand. This allows for monitoring of the emitted radiation as well as the fluorescence signal. The stability of the (64) Cu(II) 3 complex is investigated by transmetalation experiments with Zn(II) and Ni(II) , using fluorescence and radioactivity detection, and the results confirm the high stability of (64) Cu(II) 3. In addition, metal complexes of ligand 3 with the lanthanide ions Tb(III) , Eu(III) , and Nd(III) are shown to exhibit emission of the BODIPY ligand and the lanthanide ion, thus enabling dual emission detection.

-β, β-β' trifused porphyrins incorporating two distinct active methylene groups (MN = malononitrile and IND = 1,3-indanedione) and their corresponding metal complexes with Cu(II) and Zn(II) have been synthesized with good to excellent yields and characterized by various spectroscopic techniques and spectrometric methods. Single crystal X-ray analysis of the Zn(II) complex ZnTFPMB(MN) (where TFP = trifused porphyrin and MB = mono benzo) revealed a nonplanar 'armchair' type conformation with a twist angle of 24.10°.

Tuning the Duplex Stability of DNA Oligonucleotides Containing Metal-Mediated Base Pairs of Imidazole-Derived Nucleobases.

Two artificial imidazole-derived nucleobases, Im (3H-imidazo[4,5-f]quinolin-5-ol) and Im (imidazole-4-carboxylate), were introduced into short DNA duplexes to systematically investigate their thermal stability upon metal ion coordination. Metal-mediated base pairs are formed with the 3d metal ions Co, Ni and Zn, as well as with the lanthanoid ions Eu and Sm, which induce a thermal stabilization of up to 8 °C upon binding. The latter are the first lanthanoid-mediated base pairs involving only four donor atoms that result in a significant duplex stabilization.

Five metal dithiocarbamate complexes [M(PTHIQDTC)] [where PTHIQDTC is (S)-1-phenyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline dithiocarbamate anion and M is Ni(II) (1), Sn(II) (2), Hg(II) (3), Pb(II) (4) and Zn(II) (5)] were synthesized from the reaction of MX (X is Cl for 1-3 and OAc for 4-5) with ligand of triethylammonium (S)-1-phenyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline dithiocarbamate [EtNH][PTHIQDTC] in methanolic solution at room temperature. The five complexes were characterized by IR, H andC NMR, mass spectrometry, elemental analysis and TGA analysis. Recrystallization of [Zn(PTHIQDTC)] (5) in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) converts 5 to [Zn(PTHIQDTC)(DMSO)] (6).

A condensation reaction was carried out between 4-nitro-ortho-phenylenediamine and 5-bromosalicyaldehyde to synthesize a novel Schiff base ligand 2,2'-[(1E,1'E)-(4-nitro-1,2-phenylene) bis (azaneylylidene) bis (methaneylylidene)] bis (4-bromophenol) [NB] in the current investigation. This was followed by the synthesis of metallic complexes comprising the Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) transition metal ions. A hexadentate environment encircling metal complexes was corroborated by the results of varied spectroscopic methods that were employed to unravel the structure of the ligand and metal complexes.

The study of the competitive and selective immobilization properties and mechanisms of pollutants immobilized by metastable biogenic monohydrocalcite is of great importance for the assessment of the eco-environmental effects and applications of hydrated calcite at the Earth's poles. Microbial culture technology was used to induce the synthesis of biogenic monohydrocalcite (BMHC), and mineral characterization, batch adsorption experiments and chemical analyses were further used to investigate the sequestration characteristics, action mechanism, and environmental effects of BMHC on Pb(II)-Ni(II)-Zn(II)-methylene blue (MB) compound pollution. The results show that BMHC is an organic-inorganic mineral composite (about 3.
