A number of prokaryotes actively contribute to lignin degradation in nature and their activity could be of interest for many applications including the production of biogas/biofuel from lignocellulosic biomass and biopulping. This review compares the reliability and efficiency of the culture-dependent screening methods currently used for the isolation of ligninolytic prokaryotes. Isolated prokaryotes exhibiting lignin-degrading potential are presented according to their phylogenetic groups. With the development of bioinformatics, culture-independent techniques are emerging that allow larger-scale data mining for ligninolytic prokaryotic functions but today, these techniques still have some limits. In this work, two phylogenetic affiliations of isolated prokaryotes exhibiting ligninolytic potential and laccase-encoding prokaryotes were determined on the basis of 16S rDNA sequences, providing a comparative view of results obtained by the two types of screening techniques. The combination of laboratory culture and bioinformatics approaches is a promising way to explore lignin-degrading prokaryotes.

Background: The COBRA-like (COBL) gene family is a crucial glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored proteins that participate in various biological processes in plants by regulating the arrangement of cell wall microfibrils. While the functions of COBL genes have been analyzed in several plant species, their roles in cotton's response to abiotic stress remain unexplored.
Results: This study identified and characterized the COBL gene family in Gossypium hirsutum, revealing a total of 39 COBL family members classified into five subgroups.

Azo dye wastewater has garnered significant attention from researchers because of its association with high-temperature, high-salt, and high-alkali conditions. In this study, consortium ZZ efficiently decolorized brown D3G under halophilic and thermophilic conditions. he results indicated that consortium ZZ, which was mainly dominated by Marinobacter, Bacillus, and Halomonas, was achieved decolorization rates ranging from 1 to 10% at temperatures between 40 °C and 50 °C, while maintaining a pH range of 7 to 10 for direct brown D3G degradation.

Panax ginseng is an important medicinal plant in China and is classified into two types: cultivated ginseng (CFCG) and mountain-cultivated ginseng (MCG). The two types of genetic varieties are the same, but the growth environments and management practices are different, resulting in substantial differences in their taproot morphology. Currently, there is a paucity of research on the internal mechanisms that regulate the phenotypic differences between cultivated ginseng and mountain-cultivated ginseng.

Lignin, an energy-rich and adaptable polymer comprising phenylpropanoid monomers utilized by plants for structural reinforcement, water conveyance, and defense mechanisms, ranks as the planet's second most prevalent biopolymer, after cellulose. Despite its prevalence, lignin is frequently underused in the process of converting biomass into fuels and chemicals. Instead, it is commonly incinerated for industrial heat due to its intricate composition and resistance to decomposition, presenting obstacles for targeted valorization.
