Concentrations of glycolytic intermediates and adenine nucleotides have been estimated in adductor muscle and hepatopancreas from the sea mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis Lmk. after various periods of valve closure. Mass action ratios of enzyme steps involved in the metabolism of these components are compared with their equilibrium constants. This reveals hexokinase, phosphofructokinase, pyruvate kinase and fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase catalyze non-equilibrium reactions. The changes in the concentrations of the glycolytic intermediates and in the rate M.A.R./Keq during hypoxia suggest that the carbon flow after valve closure is first controlled by phophofructokinase, but later on the rate of transformation of phosphoenolyruvate regulates this flow.

Introduction: Groin pain is a common issue among athletes. Adductor-related pain is known as the most common cause of groin pain. Although, non-operative treatments have limited efficacy, Capacitive and Resistive Energy Transfer (TECAR), can be used in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.

Background: Quadriceps weakness following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) delays rehabilitation and increases fall risk. The combined impact of tourniquets and adductor canal blocks (ACBs) on postoperative quadriceps strength has not been defined. This study evaluated the early effects of tourniquet and/or ACB usage on quadriceps strength following TKA.

The unprecedented technical and technological evolution in thyroid surgery has labelled it as an extremely safe and efficient procedure, and indeed "typifies perhaps better than any other operation the supreme triumph of the surgeon's art."-William Halsted, 1852-1922. Surgeon's experience reflected by annual case load is the most important denominator in thyroid surgery.

The influence of sex and heredity on DNA methylation in the somatic tissues of mice has been well-documented, with similar hereditary effects reported in honeybees. However, the extent to which these factors affect DNA methylation in molluscan somatic tissues remains poorly understood. In this study, we investigated genomic DNA methylation patterns in the adductor muscle of two genetically distinct oyster strains using whole-genome bisulfite sequencing (WGBS).

An ulnar nerve (UN) palsy is devastating for hand function, resulting in an intrinsic minus position or claw hand with a loss of pinch grip. Distal nerve transfers facilitate faster reinnervation of hand intrinsic muscles in cases of proximal ulnar nerve lesions. The traditional anterior interosseous nerve (AIN) to UN motor transfer is commonly used, however, this still leads to long reinnervation times for the distal intrinsic muscles, important for the thumb to index pinch grip.
