Mathematical modeling of somatic evolution, a process impacting both host cells and microbial communities in the human body, can capture important dynamics driving carcinogenesis. Here we considered models for esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC), a cancer that has dramatically increased in incidence over the past few decades in Western populations, with high case fatality rates due to late-stage diagnoses. Despite advancements in genomic analyses of the precursor Barrett's esophagus (BE), prevention of late-stage EAC remains a significant clinical challenge.

What Is Added By This Report?: A comprehensive surveillance study revealed enterococci in 14.
Chronic wounds are a burden to millions of patients and healthcare providers worldwide. With rising incidence and prevalence, there is an urgent need to address non-healing wounds with novel approaches. Impaired wound healing has been shown to be associated with wound microbiota, and multiple bacterial species are known to contribute to delays in closure.

Although human metapneumovirus(hMPV) infection can induce severe symptoms in older adults or immunocompromised patients, it usually causes mild symptoms in young immunocompetent adults. The prevalence of hMPV infectious disease is highest during the late winter and early summer. We report a hypoxemic case of hMPV infection in a young immunocompetent man that occurred in the first autumn after the reclassification of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) from Class 2 to Class 5.
