Based on spectroscopic measurements and DFT calculations, fluorescence properties of thiazolo[4,5-b]pyrazine (TPy) derivatives with the phenyl group at the C2 position were studied. TPys were readily prepared from the corresponding amidopyrazines, which have a similar fluorescent core to a bioluminescence light emitter, Cypridina oxyluciferin. It was found that the introduction of electron-donating (methoxy and dimethylamino) groups onto the 2-phenyl moiety of the TPy derivatives, as well as the phenyl and 4-(dimethylamino)phenyl groups at C2 and C6, respectively, increases the fluorescence yield and appearance of solvatochromic character. The mechanism of increasing the fluorescence yield depending on the substituents is discussed. These findings provide useful information on designing new TPy fluorophores.

Microplastics (MPs) are an emerging environmental concern, but studies on these contaminants, particularly in river ecosystems, remain scarce. Research has indicated that MPs in the environment are predominantly microfibers (MFs); however, a few studies suggest that the MFs encountered are chiefly of natural origin. In this study, we aimed to improve the understanding of MP/MFs (both plastic and natural), among microparticle (solid particles >10 μm to <5000 μm; mainly of plastic as well as natural origin) loads in the Tiber River, Italy, by analyzing the physicochemical properties of surface water and assessing the abundance and characteristics of MPs-MFs at three sites: Ponte Grillo, Aniene, and Magliana, along a 60 km stretch.

This study proposed a hydrogel system using mung bean protein isolate (MPI) and carboxymethyl konjac glucomannan (CKGM). The effects of CKGM addition on the gel properties, structural characteristics, and Na loading capacity of the MPI-CKGM system were investigated. FTIR and molecular docking techniques demonstrated that MPI and CKGM formed hydrogels via hydrogen bonding interactions.

Achieving multicolor emission is a fascinating goal that remains challenging for zero-dimensional (0D) hybrid halides. We successfully obtained a three-millimeter-scale 0D (MXDA)CdBr (MXDA = CHN) single crystal (SC) by the solvothermal method. It serves as an outstanding host for doping with various valence activators, such as Cu, Mn and Sb, and these doped single crystals emit blue (470 nm), yellow (580 nm) and red (618 nm) fluorescence, which accurately cover a large visible region and achieve efficient multicolor emission.

Two-dimensional (2D) materials are highly valued for their unique properties and potential applications, as they can display exotic behaviors differing from those of their bulk forms. Research on elementary and binary solids has been making great progress recently, while synthesizing multi-component 2D materials experimentally remains a challenge, despite the possibility of greatly extending the number of members of the 2D realm. In this study, we synthesized ternary BiTeX (X = Cl, Br, I) nanosheets with high crystallinity through an electrochemical exfoliation method.
