The effect of the underlying blood vessel on the transient thermal response of the skin surface with and without a melanoma lesion is studied. A 3D computational model of the layers of the skin tissue with cancerous lesion was developed in COMSOL software package. Heat transfer in the skin layers and the lesion is governed by the Pennes bio-heat equation, while the blood vessel is modeled as fully developed pipe flow with constant heat transfer coefficient. The effect of various pertinent parameters, such as diameter of the blood vessel, lateral location of the blood vessel relative to the lesion, flow velocity of the blood, on the skin surface temperature distribution, have been studied in the paper. The results show significant influence of the underlying blood vessel on the temperature of the skin surface and lesion as well as on the surrounding healthy tissue. Thus, a need for development of evaluation criteria for detection of malignant lesions in the presence of blood vessels is is discussed.

Myocardial bridging is a frequent anomaly of the heart in humans and other animals. A myocardial bridge is typically characterized by the systolic narrowing seen with traditional catheter angiography, but this abnormality is not by itself a sign of ischemia or the need for intervention. In particular, transient spontaneous angina must be corroborated by reproducible narrowing during acetylcholine testing; this narrowing occurs during resting conditions and is responsive to nitroglycerin administration.

Background: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a prevalent cause of irreversible vision loss worldwide, particularly among the elderly population. Two forms of late AMD are described: neovascular AMD (nAMD), characterized by abnormal choroidal blood vessel growth, and atrophic (dry) AMD, involving retinal cell degeneration. Intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) agents have transformed nAMD treatment, with Brolucizumab emerging as a promising therapy.

Purpose: Systemic sclerosis (SSc) affects blood vessels, internal organs, and skin. In ophthalmology, SSc impacts the choroid. The choroidal vascularity index (CVI) measures the vascular component of the choroid and may serve as a biomarker for the disease staging and prognosis.

Patients presenting with acute coronary syndrome with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction require rapid and decisive interventions to restore blood flow to the affected myocardium, minimizing ischemic damage. This case report is particularly unique because it involves a patient presenting with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, where the culprit lesion was an occluded coronary artery graft with an extensive thrombus burden. The complexity of this case necessitated a strategic shift to revascularize the chronically occluded native vessel instead of the graft.

Objective: The goal of this study was to develop a nomogram that integrates clinical data to predict the likelihood of severe postoperative peritumoral brain edema (PTBE) following the surgical removal of intracranial meningioma.
Method: We included 152 patients diagnosed with meningioma who were admitted to the Department of Neurosurgery at the Affiliated People's Hospital of Jiangsu University between January 2016 and March 2023. Clinical characteristics were collected from the hospital's medical record system.
