Telemarketing fraud is pervasive and older consumers are disproportionally targeted. Given laboratory research showing that forewarning can effectively counter influence appeals, we conducted a field experiment to test whether forewarning could protect people who had been victimized in the past. A research assistant with prior experience as a telemarketer pitched a mock scam two or four weeks after participants were warned about the same scam or an entirely different scam. Both warnings reduced unequivocal acceptance of the mock scam although outright refusals (as opposed to expressions of skepticism) were more frequent with the warning than the warning. The warning, but not the warning, lost effectiveness over time. Findings demonstrate that social psychological research can inform effective protection strategies against telemarketing fraud.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused global pandemonium, and due to an unprecedented global response, the popularity and use of (veterinary) ivermectin, amongst many other conceivable 'treatments', experienced a meteoric rise. Ivermectin is a macrocyclic lactone compound belonging to the avermectin drug class and is a registered medicine in many countries, although the most common use is as veterinary medicine. In this study, a fast HPLC method was developed and validated for the quantification of ivermectin in veterinary products that were used off-label by a substantial number of people during COVID-19.

To address the problems of complex cloud features in satellite cloud maps, inaccurate typhoon localization, and poor target detection accuracy, this paper proposes a new typhoon localization algorithm, named TGE-YOLO. It is based on the YOLOv8n model with excellent high-low feature fusion capability and innovatively achieves the organic combination of feature fusion, computational efficiency, and localization accuracy. Firstly, the TFAM_Concat module is creatively designed in the neck network, which comprehensively utilizes the detailed information of shallow features and the semantic information of deeper features, enhancing the fusion ability of features at each layer.

Tipping elements on Earth are components that undergo rapid and irreversible changes when climate change reaches a tipping point. They are highly sensitive to climate variations and serve as early warning signs of global change. Human activities, including global climate pledges, significantly influence the climate and the state of tipping elements.

Visualizing mechanical stress distribution in soft and live biomaterials is essential for understanding biological processes and improving material design. However, it remains challenging due to their complexity, dynamic nature, and sensitivity requirements, necessitating innovative techniques. Since polysaccharides are common in various biomaterials, a biosensor integrating a Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET)-based tension sensor module and carbohydrate-binding modules (FTSM-CBM) has been designed for real-time monitoring of the stress distribution of these biomaterials.

Acyl glucuronide (AG) is a reactive metabolite that causes idiosyncratic drug toxicity (IDT). Although the instability of AG is used to predict the IDT risk of novel drug candidates, it sometimes overestimates the IDT risk. We investigated whether the rate of enzymatic AG hydrolysis in human liver microsomes (HLM) can predict the risk of IDT.
