Cosmetic procedures carry inherent risks of adverse events. Though rarely reported, transient and permanent alopecia are potential complications of these procedures. We report the case of a 35-year-old woman who developed pain and patches of nonscarring alopecia with erythema and edema following aesthetic application of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) on the face and along the frontal hairline.

Introduction: Assessing facial aesthetic surgery outcomes often relies on expert opinion, which inherently introduces bias. This study examined the use of artificial intelligence to objectively compare novel and standard brow lift techniques.

Methods: Fifty-nine patients who underwent brow lift surgery between 2006 and 2020 were divided into two groups: Group A (n = 47) underwent a standard brow lift, while Group B (n = 12) received our novel technique.

The patient is a 63-year-old female with past ocular history of end-stage glaucoma in her OD. To maintain symmetry and achieve cosmesis with her right orbit, she chose to proceed with enucleation of the eye with a donor sclera-wrapped 20-mm silicone sphere implant. After 1 year, she developed right enophthalmos due to volume loss.

Nonsense-mediated mRNA decay represents a biologic clearing system against aberrant mRNAs harboring nonsense and frameshift mutations and depends on three factors, UPF1, UPF2, and UPF3 (UPF3A, UPF3B). While germline pathogenic variants of UPF3B and UPF2 are known to be associated with neurodevelopmental disorders, germline variants in UPF1 have not been reported, until date, as being associated with any human disorders. Herein, we report two unrelated patients with de novo UPF1 variants.
