The main problems and the approach used by the authors for roughness metrology of super-smooth surfaces designed for diffraction-quality X-ray mirrors are discussed. The limitations of white light interferometry and the adequacy of the method of atomic force microscopy for surface roughness measurements in a wide range of spatial frequencies are shown and the results of the studies of the effect of etching by argon and xenon ions on the surface roughness of fused quartz and optical ceramics, Zerodur, ULE and Sitall, are given. Substrates of fused quartz and ULE with the roughness, satisfying the requirements of diffraction-quality optics intended for working in the spectral range below 10 nm, are made.

Machining Path Optimization of Inductively Coupled Plasma Based on Surface Heat Transfer Model.

Micromachines (Basel)

National Key Laboratory of Optical Field Manipulation Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chengdu 610209, China.

Inductively coupled plasma (ICP), a non-contact optical processing method, has been widely used in the preparation of fused quartz. However, the thermal effect during processing inevitably affects the stability of the removal rate, reduces the processing accuracy, and restricts the further development of plasma processing. This paper analyzes the critical temperature that affects the changes in plasma removal depth, establishes a heat transfer model for plasma jet processing through simulations, derives the heat conduction equation during processing, and obtains the critical radius corresponding to the critical temperature related to the processing speed.

The interfacial adhesion between transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) and the growth substrate significantly influences the employment of flakes in various applications. Most previous studies have focused on MoS and graphene, particularly their interaction with SiO/Si substrates. In this work, the adhesion strength of CVD-grown bilayer WS is directly measured using the nano scratch technique on three different substrates-Sapphire, SiO/Si, and fused quartz.

This paper presents a high power widely tunable frequency-doubled semiconductor disk laser emitting at 490 nm wavelength. The laser utilizes a specially designed gain chip with widened gain spectrum at the center wavelength of 980 nm, along with an anti-resonant microcavity, to extend the tuning range of the wavelength. A type-I phase-matched 5 mm length LBO crystal is used as the nonlinear crystal, and a fused quartz birefringent filter (BRF) is introduced to polarize the fundamental emission and narrow the linewidth of the laser.

The characteristics of 2D layered MoS film are highly dependent on the substrate it is grown on which leaves us privileged to achieve unique and tunable properties. In this study, trilayer MoS films have been grown on fused quartz, crystalline quartz (z-cut), sapphire (0001), and silicon (100) substrates. MoS film grows as freestanding on amorphous fused quartz, while it experiences an in-plane tensile strain on the sapphire and silicon.

The contamination of surfaces by antibiotic-resistant pathogens presents an escalating challenge, especially on touchscreens in public settings such as hospitals, airports, and means of transport. Traditional chemical cleaning agents are often ineffective and leave behind harmful residues. Thus, the application of optical radiation is gaining relevance as a rapid, effective, and environmentally friendly disinfection method.
