Objectives: Pediatric within-individual biological variation (CVi) is a challenge to derive by direct sampling due to clinical, logistical, and ethical barriers.
Methods: Laboratory results of 22 basic biochemistry tests performed on 9,356 children who visited primary care physicians more than once over a year were obtained from a large laboratory network in Australia. The CVi were calculated as (CVT (2) - CVa (2))(0.5), where CVT was the coefficient of variation between repeat measurements and CVa was the analytical imprecision. Smoothed 50th centile (median) CVi charts were derived using the LMS ChartMaker Light software (Medical Research Council, Cambridge, England) with L, M, and S parameters fixed at 3.0, 3.0, and 3.0 equivalent degrees of freedom, respectively.
Results: In general, the median CVi trends for this pediatric cohort remained relatively stable with increasing age. Only aspartate aminotransferase, globulin, phosphate, urea, and creatinine had differences between the highest and lowest median CVi of more than 30%. The differences between the child and adult CVi were relatively small. Nearly all the analytes had child to adult CVi ratios of 1.0 ± 0.5.
Conclusions: The median CVi derived from patients with only two repeat biochemistry measurements may be considered reasonable estimates of CVi among children seeking treatment at primary care settings. The LMS approach allowed visualization of the continuous trends of CVi with age and extended the pediatric CVi estimation to younger than 4 years.

This study aims to construct a coastal vulnerability assessment conceptual framework to improve the outcomes of Coastal Vulnerability Index (CVI) for local scale areas. Consequently, a new CVI was created adapted to the specific conditions of the area using seven variables. The new index was named Geotechnical Coastal Vulnerability Index (GCVI) due to the incorporation of two new geotechnical variables: (1) Coastal geotechnical properties and (2) Median grain size distribution.

Background: People share health-related experiences and treatments, such as for insomnia, in digital communities. Natural language processing tools can be leveraged to understand the terms used in digital spaces to discuss insomnia and insomnia treatments.
Objective: The aim of this study is to summarize and chart trends of insomnia treatment terms on a digital insomnia message board.

Purpose: To investigate the correlation between choroidal biomarkers using enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography (EDI-OCT) and indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) scoring for monitoring the activity of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH).
Methods: Patients who were not in the acute phase of VKH were recruited. Simultaneous EDI-OCT and ICGA were captured in seven patients only at baseline, in six patients at the 3-month follow-up, and in two patients at both the 6- and 9-month follow-ups.

Background: Analytical criteria for laboratory analysis based on biological variation are considered state-of-the-art. While biological variance should ideally be measured in patient populations for whom the tests are relevant, data are mostly only available from healthy individuals. We determined the biological variance of activated partial thromboplasmin time (APTT), prothrombin time (PT), fibrinogen, and trough dabigatran levels in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) who were treated with dabigatran.
