Article Synopsis
  • This research examines how serum levels of magnesium (Mg), zinc (Zn), and selenium (Se) affect the immune response to the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine.
  • The study involved 150 participants (75 males and 75 females) and measured immune markers and antibodies before and two weeks after vaccination.
  • Findings show that while specific cytokines and antibodies increased post-vaccination, levels of Mg, Zn, and Se did not significantly change or correlate with immune responses, suggesting these trace elements do not influence vaccine-induced immunity.

Detecting EGFR mutations in plasma using droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) assay offers a promising diagnostic tool for lung cancer patients. The performance of plasma-based ddPCR assay relative to traditional EGFR mutation testing in tissue biopsies among Asian patients with suspected lung cancer remains underexplored. Consecutive patients admitted for diagnostic workup for suspected lung cancer were recruited.

Relationship between maternal serum sFlt-1 level and placenta accreta spectrum disorders in the third trimester.

Arch Gynecol Obstet

November 2024

Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Peking University Third Hospital, 49 North Garden Road, Beijing, 100191, China.

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate whether the third-trimester soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1) serum levels could be related to placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) disorders and the severity of postpartum blood loss.

Methods: This was a nested case-control study which compared serum sFlt-1 level between gravid women with or without PAS disorders. Spearman correlation analysis was conducted to explore the relationship between sFlt-1 level and the volume of postpartum blood loss.

Background: The -13910 C/T single nucleotide polymorphism located within the MCM6 gene, an enhancer region located upstream of the lactase-phlorizin hydrolase gene, is associated with lactase persistence/non-persistence traits among the Caucasian population. The performance of a new point-of-care CE-IVD (In Vitro Diagnostic) marked isothermal lab-on-phone lactose intolerance assay, using crude samples, was assessed in comparison with Sanger sequencing using purified DNA, as reference method.

Methods: The study was conducted following a non-probability sampling using direct buccal swab (n = 63) and capillary blood (n = 43) clinical samples from a total of 63 volunteers.

We carried out a qualitative study to gain a deeper understanding of the social context of the Cooking and Pneumonia Study (CAPS) and implications for implementation of clean cooking and similar interventions. Such initiatives are recognised as complex, power-laden processes, which has consequences for outcomes and uptake. However, understanding of how precarious livelihoods and unequal power differentials impact on trials of technology is limited and potentially hampers the achievement of the SDGs including SDG 7, Affordable and Clean Energy.
