There is no consensus in the literature regarding the ideal protocol for obtaining and preparing cell samples for untargeted metabolomics. Nevertheless, the procedures must be carefully evaluated for proper and reliable results for each organism under study. This work proposes a novel protocol for determining intracellular metabolites in Leishmania promastigotes and is fully optimized for application in conjunction with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry platforms.

Evaluation of the Palatal Features in Relation to Graft Harvesting in the Saudi Population.

Medicina (Kaunas)

January 2025

Faculty in Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics, College of Dentistry, King Saud University, Riyadh P.O. Box 11545, Saudi Arabia.

The palate's morphological characteristics are of great importance, especially in periodontology, where the palatine tissue represents a source of tissue graft for multiple mucogingival surgeries. This study aimed to estimate the amount of donor tissue available through the average palatal height and average location of the greater palatine artery in the Saudi population according to age and gender. Digital casts for adult Saudi patients at the age of 18-60 years old with a mean age of 37.

Photosynthetic organisms rely on a network of light-harvesting protein-pigment complexes to efficiently absorb sunlight and transfer excitation energy to reaction centre proteins where charge separation occurs. In photosynthetic purple bacteria, these complexes are embedded within the cell membrane, with lipid composition affecting complex clustering, thereby impacting inter-complex energy transfer. However, the impact of the lipid bilayer on intra-complex excitation dynamics is less understood.

Untethered Soft Robots Based on 1D and 2D Nanomaterials.

Adv Mater

January 2025

School of Mechanical Engineering, Southeast University, Nanjing, Jiangsu, 211189, P. R. China.

Biological structures exhibit autonomous and intelligent behaviors, such as movement, perception, and responses to environmental changes, through dynamic interactions with their surroundings. Inspired by natural organisms, future soft robots are also advancing toward autonomy, sustainability, and interactivity. This review summarizes the latest achievements in untethered soft robots based on 1D and 2D nanomaterials.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to determine the exact locations of vascular pedicles that supply the fibularis longus and brevis, to identify the morphometric features of those vessels in the lateral compartment of the leg, and to indicate the branching points of the pedicles from the main arteries.

Methods: The popliteal arteries of 40 lower limbs from 20 adult cadavers (12 males, 8 females) were bilaterally injected with colored latex. After dissection, the branches of the arteries were identified and counted.
