Objective: To find out whether there are any relationship between leprosy and periodontitis as evidenced by clinical parameters.

Methods: Fifteen diagnosed patients with Hansen's disease were selected and compared against 50 healthy individuals. Clinical parameters like probing pocket depth and clinical attachment level were evaluated for both the groups and the results were subjected to statistical analysis.

Results: Mean probing depth and attachment loss is seen more in patients with Hansen's disease than the healthy controls which are statistically significant.

Conclusions: Patients with Hansen's disease tend to have more periodontal destruction than the healthy controls.

BACKGROUNDExisting TB diagnostic tests rely on sputum samples, which can be difficult to collect from all patients. This study examines plasma cell-free DNA (Mtb cfDNA) based quantitative PCR (qPCR) assay for the diagnosis of pulmonary TB (PTB).METHODSThe qPCR assay targeted insertion sequence (IS), and R genes on plasma samples from 106 PTB patients and 60 controls.

Reliable and sensitive testing of physical function is crucial for assessing the effects of treatment or exercise intervention in various patient populations. The present study investigated the test-retest reliability and sensitivity (smallest detectable difference: SDD) of selected physical performance tests commonly used in clinical rehabilitation, including tests of habitual and maximal walking speed, walking endurance capacity, handgrip strength (HGS), and lower limb muscle power (Sit-to-Stand (STS), stair climb) in adults with severe obesity meeting the criteria for bariatric surgery. Thirty-two adults (BMI 43.

The Effectiveness of Video Animations as a Tool to Improve Health Information Recall for Patients: Systematic Review.

J Med Internet Res

December 2024

University Clinic for Interdisciplinary Orthopedic Pathways (UCOP), Elective Surgery Center, Silkeborg Regional Hospital, Silkeborg, Denmark.

Background: Access to clear and comprehensible health information is crucial for patient empowerment, leading to improved self-care, adherence to treatment plans, and overall health outcomes. Traditional methods of information delivery, such as written documents and oral communication, often result in poor memorization and comprehension. Recent innovations, such as animation videos, have shown promise in enhancing patient understanding, but comprehensive investigations into their effectiveness across various health care settings are lacking.

The latest generation of wrist arthroplasties provides good clinical function and pain relief with an acceptable revision/reoperation rate. The procedure is complex and technically demanding, both for the surgeon and the patient. The available implants (with the exception of one) have not been developed or refined in the last decade, which reduces the versatility and ability to adapt to specific patient anatomy, to manage implant/treatment problems and to perform successful revisions.

Background: BIN1, the second strongest GWAS risk factor for late-onset Alzheimer's disease (AD), encodes a nucleocytoplasmic adaptor protein that plays many roles in multiple tissue and cell types. It is known that BIN1 can directly bind to tau in vitro, and neuronal BIN1 expression decreases in patients with AD. Accumulation of intracellular hyperphosphorylated tau is a hallmark pathogenic feature of AD and related tauopathies.
