A rapid and effective sensor for the analysis of nitrophenol-based explosive substances, represented by trinitrophenol (TNP), has been developed with the use of the blue luminescent graphene quantum dots (GQDs); these GQDs are derived from citric acid by a pyrolysis procedure. They emit strong blue fluorescence at 450 nm after excitation at 365 nm, and TNP can quench this fluorescence because a fluorescence resonance energy transfer occurs. The quenching ratio (F0-F)/F0 was related linearly to the concentration of TNP in the range of 0.1-15 μmol L(-1) with a detection limit of 0.091 μmol L(-1) (S/N=3). The developed method exhibits high sensitivity, good linearity and reliable reproducibility for the quantitative analysis of TNP in water samples. The GQDs were used directly without any further treatment or complicated modification.

This study investigates simple acetylenes substituted with phenylurea as a constant H-bonding unit (Alk-R) and varied hydrophobic units (R = H, Phenyl (Ph), Phenylacetylene (PA), Ph-NMe2) to understand self-assembly properties driven by synergistic non-covalent interactions. Our observations reveal hierarchical self-assembled fibrillar networks with luminescent needles, fibers, and flowers on nano- to micro-meter scales. Subtle changes in substituents led to significant differences: H, Ph, PA, and Ph-NMe2 produced needle-like crystals, dendritic nanofibers, microflakes, and no self-assembly, respectively.

Nowadays, benzimidazole and its derivatives are widely assembled into multifunctional materials with various properties such as mechanochromism, photochromism, thermochromism and electrochromism. Herein, two novel zinc(II) coordination compounds, [Zn(L)Br]·2HO (1) and [Zn(L)Cl]·2HO (2) (L = tetra(1-benzo[]imidazol-2-yl)ethene), have been constructed one-pot facile synthesis from bis(1-benzo[]imidazol-2-yl)methane (L) and zinc(II) salts. The ligand L with a CC double bond was formed by C-C coupling of two sp-C atoms of L in solvothermal synthesis, which provides a new strategy to generate the conjugation system conveniently.

The efficient harvesting of triplet excitons is key to realizing high efficiency blue fluorescent organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA) up-conversion is one of the effective triplet-harvesting strategies. However, during the TTA up-conversion process, a high current density is necessary due to the competitive non-radiative triplet losses.

A crucial step in fabricating full-color organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays is patterning the emissive layer (EML). Traditional methods utilize thermal evaporation through metal masks. However, this limits the achievable resolution required for emerging microdisplay technologies.

White-light generation using small organic molecules has gained significant attention from researchers working on the interface of supramolecular chemistry and organic materials. Self-assembled multi-chromophoric materials utilizing a drug molecule and microenvironment-sensitive intramolecular charge transfer dye as an emitter offer the possibility of tunable emission. In this investigation, we focused on white light generation via the combination of a polarity-sensitive red-emitting styryl chromone (SC) and a blue-emitting anticancer and psychotherapeutic drug Norharmane (NHM) in a self-assembled micellar system.
