Unlabelled: Interventional radiologic procedures offer a significant and expanding role in the management of various renovascular diseases including renal artery stenosis, renal artery aneurysm and pseudoaneurysm, renal vascular malformations, renal tumours, trauma, and resistant hypertension. In this article, we discuss these entities in the context of currently accepted definitions, incidence, modes of diagnosis, and management as they pertain to the practice of interventional radiology. Particular emphasis is placed on current interventional procedures for managing and treating these diseases as well as emerging procedures and technologies.
Teaching Points: • Highlights the literature on renovascular diseases • Reviewing the role of various interventional procedures in the management of renovascular disease • Review of imaging techniques in the identification and characterisation of renovascular disease.

Poor blood pressure control in treated patients with hypertension is an important topic in the field of hypertension, and an unmet need for new therapeutic drugs remains. Soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC), a key signal transduction enzyme responsible for vasodilation, has attracted increasing interest as a therapeutic target in various cardiovascular diseases. Two different sGC agonists, sGC stimulators and activators, can increase its enzymatic activity in reduced and oxidized/apo forms, respectively.

Proteinuria, especially albuminuria, serves as an independent risk factor for progression in cardiovascular and renal diseases. Clinical and experimental studies have demonstrated that renal nerves contribute to renal dysfunction in arterial hypertension (AH). This study hypothesizes that renal nerves mediate the mechanisms of protein endocytosis by proximal tubule epithelial cells (PTEC) and glomerular function; with dysregulation of the renal nerves contributing to proteinuria in Wistar rats with renovascular hypertension (2-kidney, 1-clip model, 2K-1C).

This case report underscores the importance of thorough follow-up care for children recovering from COVID-19, with a focus on monitoring blood pressure and renal function to mitigate long-term renovascular disease.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is associated with low-grade inflammation, which can be exacerbated by renal artery stenosis (RAS) and renovascular hypertension, potentially worsening outcomes through pro-inflammatory cytokines. This study investigated whether mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) could reduce fat inflammation in pigs with MetS and RAS. Twenty-four pigs were divided into Lean (control), MetS, MetS + RAS, and MetS + RAS + MSCs.

In renal vasculitis, luminal narrowing can reduce blood flow and activate the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, causing renovascular hypertension. We present the case of a 47-year-old man with previous intestinal tuberculosis and episodes of lumbar pain, tender erythematous nodules and arthralgias. He had grade 3 hypertension, unresponsive to treatment, with left ventricular concentric hypertrophy and chronic kidney disease.
