Ovarian tumours are these days one of the biggest oncogynecological problems. In addition to surgery, the treatment of ovarian cancer includes also chemotherapy in which platinum preparations are one of the most used chemotherapeutic drugs. The principle of antineoplastic effects of cisplatin (cis-diamminedichloroplatinum(II), CDDP) is its binding to the DNA and the formation of adducts.

As the most prevalent type of alternative splicing in animal cells, exon skipping plays an important role in expanding the diversity of transcriptome and proteome, thereby participating in the regulation of diverse physiological and pathological processes such as development, aging, and cancer. Cellular senescence serving as an anti-cancer mechanism could also contribute to individual aging. Although the dynamic changes of exon skipping during cellular senescence were revealed, its biological consequence and upstream regulator remain poorly understood.

Budding yeast have "intergenomic signaling" pathways that sense the amount of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) independently of oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), the primary function of genes encoded by mtDNA. However, MRS pathways that sense the amount of mtDNA in mammalian cells remain poorly understood.

We have previously identified that infection induces a unique form of myeloid training that protects male but not female mice from high fat diet induced disease. Here we demonstrate that ovarian derived hormones account for this sex specific difference. Ovariectomy of females prior to infection permits metabolic reprogramming of the myeloid lineage, with BMDM exhibiting carbon source flexibility for cellular respiration, and mice protected from systemic metabolic disease.

There is a myriad of activities that involve mitochondria that are crucial for maintaining cellular equilibrium and genetic stability. In the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative illnesses, mitochondrial transcription influences mitochondrial equilibrium, which in turn affects their biogenesis and integrity. Among the crucial proteins for keeping the genome in optimal repair is mitochondrial transcription factor A, more commonly termed TFAM.
