In response to the call from an international panel for 'much needed rethinking' about the goals and purposes of the education of healthcare professionals, we suggest that there must be an explicit account of the virtues and values that will inform healthcare practice in the 21st century. We propose that a renewed emphasis is needed on reviving the well-honed clinical skills and humanistic attributes in medicine as crucial for optimum affordable (and sustainable) care of individual patients. Analogous virtues should be linked to the quest for improving the health of whole populations, nationally and globally.

Electrical performances of a biphenyl-derived amido Schiff base ligand L and its dinuclear Al(iii) complex (complex 1) were investigated in a metal-semiconductor (MS) junction. Electrical studies revealed that complex 1 significantly enhanced the electrical conductivity and improved the characteristics of a Schottky barrier diode (SBD). The - characteristics demonstrated that complexation of ligand L with Al(iii) ion increased the conductivity by two orders of magnitude (conductivity of L = 1.

January 2025

Plunkett Centre for Ethics, Australian Catholic University, Darlinghurst, New South Wales, Australia.

The spectre of human-induced climate change has drawn attention to the need to discover new, environmentally sustainable approaches to healthcare. This article draws upon David McPherson's The Virtues of Limits (2021) to develop a virtue ethics for sustainability in healthcare. I explore how a virtuous appreciation of the value of healthcare resources can lead us to exercise stewardship in our use of those resources, whereas a failure to appreciate the value of resources can lead to irresponsible and unsustainable patterns of use.

For several decades, to enhance relationship quality, marriage and relationship education (MRE) programs have focused on teaching communication skills and conflict management. However, new explanations reveal that the effectiveness of communication skills in MRE programs may largely depend on virtues. Through a randomized controlled trial (RCT), the present study examined the effectiveness of the Getting Our Hearts Right Program (GOHR; a virtue-based approach) and the Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP; a skill-based approach).

Department of Plastic Surgery, Armed Forces Capital Hospital, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-City, Gyeonggi-do, and Department of Anatomy, College of Medicine, Ewha Womans University, Seoul, Republic of Korea.

The aim of this study is to analyze the role played by the appearance of female ghosts in their redemption. In the literature on ghosts, entries on female ghosts highlight their "beautiful appearance": Arang (Korean), Otsuyu (Japanese), The White Lady (Europe), Nie Xiaoqian (Chinese), and Maria Makiling (Filipino). Ghosts are women who died tragically, leaving behind unfulfilled desires-particularly those related to romantic or societal expectations such as marriage, love, and motherhood.
