Vertical abdominoplasty is a safe and effective procedure to correct abdominal contour abnormalities in individuals with excessive soft tissue in both the vertical and transverse orientation. The literature, although limited, supports the effectiveness of this procedure in addressing this clinical scenario. Further, the complication rates are comparable to a standard transverse abdominoplasty.

The corset trunkplasty was introduced by Moya et al. in 2009 (Moya and Sharma in JPRAS 62:56-64, 2009). It is a modified abdominoplasty technique that combines vertical and high lateral incisions to achieve an hourglass shape in post-massive weight loss patients.

Breast reconstruction in postbariatric patients presents unique challenges due to substantial weight loss-induced body deformities. We present the case of a 51-year-old woman with massive lower abdominal deformities who underwent a mastectomy treatment followed by a temporary expander-based reconstruction. A year later, a fleur-de-lis-shaped free deep inferior epigastric artery perforator flap and abdominoplasty were performed for autologous reconstruction and abdominal contouring.

This identical twin case demonstrates the aesthetic differences of two different body contouring procedures in alike patients. Body contouring improves physical, psychosocial, and sexual function therefore providing the best possible aesthetic outcome for massive weight loss patients is important. The Fleur-de-Lis pattern should be strongly considered when dealing with moderate to significant horizontal skin excess of the abdomen to obtain the best possible contouring and create an attractive female contour of hip and waist.

Background: Fleur-de-lis panniculectomy (FDL), a contouring technique involving vertical and horizontal tissue resections, often involves longer operative times and potential complications. This study assessed operative time, postoperative outcomes, and patient-reported quality of life (PRO) with Insorb Absorbable Subcuticular Skin Stapler versus traditional sutures during FDL.
Methods: A retrospective review from 2015 to 2022 of FDL patients excluded those with complex concomitant procedures.
