This is aggravated a great deal by the fact that these patients do not return to work and are often placed in permanent postoperative disability. Comparative analysis of return-to-work rates after coronary by-pass, according to the social benefits system, clearly demonstrates the magnitude of the possible savings. Attending physicians, specialists and experts must, therefore, motivate the patients with total disability.
