AI Article Synopsis

  • Centruroides franckei and Centruroides rodolfoi are newly identified scorpion species from Oaxaca, Mexico, classified within the "striped" group of the genus.
  • Thirteen species of this genus are found in Oaxaca, with six belonging to the specific "striped" subgroup called infamatus-nigrovariatus.
  • The new species are compared morphologically to their closest relatives, and a map illustrating the distribution of the six striped species in the state is included.

Article Abstract

Centruroides franckei, n. sp. and Centruroides rodolfoi, n. sp. are described from Oaxaca, Mexico. These species belong to the "striped" group within the genus. Thirteen species of the genus are reported for the state, six of them belonging to the "striped" group (infamatus-nigrovariatus subgroup). Both new species are compared to their most morphological similar species. A map with the six "striped" (infamatus-nigrovariatus subgroup) species in the state is also provided.

Introduction: The methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) genome varies by geographical location. This study aims to determine the genomic characteristics of MRSA using whole-genome sequencing (WGS) data from medical centers in Mexico and to explore the associations between antimicrobial resistance genes and virulence factors.

Methods: This study included 27 clinical isolates collected from sterile sites at eight centers in Mexico in 2022 and 2023.

Breast milk is a fluid of vital importance during the first stages of life of the newborn since, in addition to providing nutrients, it also contains cells and molecules of the immune system, which protect the neonate from infection and, at the same time, modulate the establishment of the microbiota. Bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein (BPI) is relevant in preventing disease and sepsis in neonates. Therefore, the following work aimed to demonstrate the presence of BPI in the different stages of breast milk and its possible immune functions.

This study provides a comprehensive structural, chemical, and optical characterization of CZTS thin films deposited on flexible Kapton substrates via the Successive Ionic Layer Adsorption and Reaction (SILAR) method. The investigation explored the effects of varying deposition cycles (40, 60, 70, and 80) and annealing treatments on the films. An X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis demonstrated enhanced crystallinity and phase purity, particularly in films deposited with 70 cycles.
