Two simple, eco-friendly and efficient phase-selective gelators were developed for instant (<45 s) gelation of oil (either commercial fuels or pure organic liquids) from an oil-water mixture at room temperature to combat marine oil spills.

One challenge remaining in the development of Ir-based electrocatalyst is the activity-stability paradox during acidic oxygen evolution reaction (OER), especially for the surface reconstructed IrO catalyst with high efficiency. To address this, a phase selective Ir-based electrocatalyst is constructed by forming bridged W-O moiety in NiIrO electrocatalyst. Through an electrochemical dealloying process, an nano-porous structure with surface-hydroxylated rutile NiWIrO electrocatalyst is engineered via Ni as a sacrificial element.

The limitation of Liquid-liquid micro-extraction (LLME) procedures can be the need for the use of a dispersive solvent which should be soluble in both of aqueous and organic phases. In this research, a new method named SUPRA-based LLME, is introduced which uses supra molecular solvent (SUPRA), as an environmentally friendly solvent, for quantitative and selective extraction of Co ions from its aqueous solution via liquid-liquid micro-extraction process. The aqueous immiscible SUPRA phase, composed of vesicles of decanoic acid was synthesized via ex-situ procedure and used as a single liquid phase.

In the field of global water purification, the issue of marine oil spills represents a significant challenge. The use of phase-selective organogelators (PSOGs) as sorbent materials in oil spill remediation is a promising solution due to their environmental adaptability and high absorption capacity. However, there are limited reports on PSOGs that can be used in powder form for rapid phase-selective gelation of crude oils.

Sustainable manufacturing that prioritizes energy efficiency, minimal water use, scalability and the ability to generate diverse materials is essential to advance inorganic materials production while maintaining environmental consciousness. However, current manufacturing practices are not yet equipped to fully meet these requirements. Here we describe a flash-within-flash Joule heating (FWF) technique-a non-equilibrium, ultrafast heat conduction method-to prepare ten transition metal dichalcogenides, three group XIV dichalcogenides and nine non-transition metal dichalcogenide materials, each in under 5 s while in ambient conditions.
