The authors have studied the longest and the shortest nuclear axes, the ratio between nuclear axes, the nuclear areas and the mitotic indices in melanocytic tumors and have noted progressive changes of the values in superficial spreading and in nodular melanoma as compared to nevi. The most powerful discriminants were the mitotic index and the ratio between the nuclear axes. These findings are discussed in relationship with the tumor progression.

Purpose: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important roles in progression of neuroblastoma (NB). LncRNA nuclear paraspeckle assembly transcript 1 (NEAT1) has been shown to affect the development of multiple tumors. However, the effect of NEAT1 on NB remain unclear.

Background: Acute lung injury or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ALI/ARDS) is a devastating clinical syndrome with high incidence and mortality rates. IRE1α-XBP1 pathway is one of the three major signaling axes of endoplasmic reticulum stress that is involved in inflammation, metabolism, and immunity. The role and potential mechanisms of IRE1α-XBP1 axis in ALI/ARDS has not well understood.

Oxyberberine (OBB), a natural metabolite of berberine, has been shown to exhibit inhibitory effects on gluconeogenesis in our previous work. This work was designed to investigate the potential effects and underlying mechanisms of OBB on hepatic gluconeogenesis. Our work found that OBB significantly inhibited the expressions of glucose 6-phosphatase (G6Pase) and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK), and decreased the glucose production in palmitic acid-induced HepG2 cells.

Oocyte polarity establishment is a conserved and crucial phenomenon for embryonic development. It relies on the precise spatial localization of maternal factors deposited during oocyte development, which is essential for establishing and maintaining cell polarity and subsequently specifying embryonic axes. The heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) encoded by the squid (sqd) gene has been implicated in mRNA localization and embryonic axis establishment in Drosophila melanogaster.
