Understanding the correlation between physicochemical properties and morphology of nanostructures is a prerequisite for widespread applications of nanomaterials in environmental application areas. Herein, we illustrated that the uniform-sized SnO2@C hollow nanoparticles were large-scale synthesized by a facile hydrothermal method. The size of the core-shell hollow nanoparticles was about 56 nm, and the shell was composed of a solid carbon layer with a thickness of 2 ~ 3 nm. The resulting products were characterized in terms of morphology, composition, and surface property by various analytical techniques. Moreover, the SnO2@C hollow nanoparticles are shown to be effective adsorbents for removing four different dyes from aqueous solutions, which is superior to the pure hollow SnO2 nanoparticles and commercial SnO2. The enhanced mechanism has also been discussed, which can be attributed to the high specific surface areas after carbon coating.

The application of a multimodal combination therapy based on a targeted nanodelivery system has been demonstrated to be more valuable in the treatment of cancer. In this work, a hollow polydopamine delivery system (CCC@HP@M) was designed to achieve sonodynamic and calcium-overload combined therapy for colon cancer. The CCC@HP@M exhibits both homologous tumour-targeting ability and pH-responsive drug release properties, enabling the simultaneous targeted delivery of CaO nanoparticles/sonosensitizer Ce6/autophagy inhibitor CQ.

T cell lymphoma constitutes a complex group of diseases, characterized by heterogeneous molecular features and clinical symptoms, and a dismal outcome no matter the therapeutic strategy chosen. In an attempt to improve patients' survival chances, treatment combinations (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, gene therapy and thermotherapy) have been tested for their synergistic effects that may dramatically improve outcomes and reduce the side effects of each single modality treatment when therapeutic effects add up while side effects are distributed. In this context, nanoscale drug delivery agents have been developed and exploited to enhance the release of drugs in the treatment of several diseases, showing potential benefits in terms of pharmaceutical flexibility, selectivity, dose reduction and minimization of adverse effects.

Semiconductor photocatalysts embedded with rare earth upconversion nanoparticles (REUPs) are a promising strategy to improve their photoresponse range, but their photocatalytic performance within the near-infrared (NIR) region is far from satisfactory. Here, a method is reported to improve the photocatalytic activity by adjusting the nanocavity of upconversion nanoparticles inside a semiconductor. Two types of CdS embedded with NaYF:Yb,Er photocatalysts with core-shell structure (no cavity) (NYE/CdS) and yolk-shell structure (empty cavity) (NYE@CdS) are synthesized by different methods.

Using Pickering emulsion (PE) as the carrier of active compounds in bio-based coatings constitutes a highly promising research domain. This study focused on creating a food-grade, biocompatible, and antibacterial PE to coat fresh fruits and vegetables, extending their shelf life. Hollow zein/soluble soybean polysaccharide nanoparticles loaded with thymol (H-ZSH/T) were produced using NaHCO as a sacrificial template to stabilize PE.

The transition metal single atoms (SAs)-based catalysts with M-N coordination environment have shown excellent performance in electrocatalytic reduction of CO, and they have received extensive attention in recent years. However, the presence of SAs makes it very difficult to efficiently improve the coordination environment. In this paper, a method of direct high-temperature pyrolysis carbonization of ZIF-8 adsorbed with Ni and Fe ions is reported for the synthesis of Ni SAs and FeN nanoparticles (NPs) supported by the N-doped carbon (NC) hollow nanododecahedras (HNDs) with nanotubes (NTs) on the surface (Ni SAs/FeN NPs@NC-HNDs-NTs).
