New porphyrin sensitizers based on donor-π-acceptor (D-π-A) approach have been designed, synthesized, characterized by various spectroscopic techniques and their photovoltaic properties explored. N,N'-Diphenylamine acts as donor, the porphyrin is the π-spacer, and either carboxylic acid or cyanoacryclic acid acts as acceptor. All compounds were characterized by using (1)H NMR spectroscopy, ESI-MS, UV-visible emission spectroscopies as well as electrochemical methods. The presence of aromatic groups between porphyrin π-plane and acceptor group push the absorption of both Soret and Q-bands of porphyrin towards the red region. The electrochemical properties suggests that LUMO of these sensitizers above the TiO2 conduction band. Finally, the device was fabricated using liquid redox electrolyte (I(-)/I3(-)) and its efficiency was compared with that of a leading sensitizer.

Microwave dynamic therapy (MWDT) destroy tumor cells using reactive oxygen species (ROS), but its effectiveness is limited by low ROS production and intracellular oxygen (O) availability. This study presents a novel strategy using manganese (II) ion (Mn) doped iron (Fe)-based metal-organic framework (Fe MOF) nanoparticles (NPs) to enhance both O generation and ROS production for improved MWDT. Incorporating Mn into Fe MOF narrows the bandgap from 0.

Hybrid nanoscintillators, which feature a heavy inorganic nanoparticle conjugated with an organic emitter, represent a promising avenue for advancements in diverse fields, including high-energy physics, homeland security, and biomedicine. Many research studies have shown the suitability of hybrid nanoscintillators for radiation oncology, showing potential to improve therapeutic results compared to traditional protocols. In this work, we studied SiO/ZnO nanoparticles functionalized with porphyrin as a photosensitizer, capable of producing cancer cytotoxic reactive oxygen species for possible use in radio-oncological therapeutics.

Since Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs) was created, a versatile and cost-effective alternative among photovoltaic technology options for power generation and energy transition to combat climate change have emerged. The theoretical and experimental knowledge of DSSCs have increased in regard to their operation in the last three decades of development; it includes the device's components, as well as the most recent innovations in their application and forms of activation. In this work paper, we presented a meta-study of photovoltaic characterization parameters, 329 scientific reports of DSSCs were considered to compare three types of sensitizers (Organometallics, non-metal organic dyes and, natural dyes).

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) eradicates tumor cells by the light-stimulated reactive oxygen species, which also induces lipid peroxidation (LPO) and subsequently ferroptosis, an iron-depended cell death. Ferroptosis has a tremendous therapeutic potential in cancer treatment, however, the ferroptosis efficiency is largely limited by the available iron in cells. Through hijacking the CD44-mediated iron endocytosis of hyaluronan (HA), here PDT with enhanced ferroptosis was realized by a HA@Ce6 nanogel self-assembled from HA, a photosensitizer Chlorin e6 (Ce6) and Fe as cross-linkers.

Photosensitization has a wide range of applications in vastly distant fields. Three key components must be present at the same time to trigger the related photodynamic effect: light, the photosensitizer (PS) and oxygen. Irradiating the sensitizer leads to the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS).
