Background: The use of saliva to identify individuals with disease and to follow the progress of the affected individual has attracted the attention of numerous investigators. Its noninvasive method of collection, simplicity, and cost effectiveness make it a useful tool not only to the general practitioner but also to the pediatric dentist.
Aim: The aim of this paper is to provide the clinician with a comprehensive review of the diagnostic uses of saliva in dentistry.

Purpose: This systematic review aimed to assess the updated literature for the prevention of salivary gland hypofunction and xerostomia induced by non-surgical cancer therapies.
Methods: Electronic databases of MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCT) that investigated interventions to prevent salivary gland hypofunction and/or xerostomia. Literature search began from the 2010 systematic review publications from the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer/International Society of Oral Oncology (MASCC/ISOO) up to February 2024.

Background: Diabetes with its highly prevalence has become a major contributor to the burden of health care costs worldwide. Recent unequivocal evidence has revealed a bidirectional link between oral health and diabetes. In this study, the effects of the Oral Health Promotion Program (OHPP) on oral hygiene, oral health-related quality of life and glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) levels in diabetic elderly were examined.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and subjects' perception of the Modified Schirmer Test (MST) to the traditional Unstimulated Salivary Flow Test (USFT) when measuring salivary flow rate for screening and monitoring patients' dry mouth.
Methods: A total of 100 subjects were enrolled including subjects with and without dry mouth. All subjects answered a brief self-reported survey about dry mouth before and after the two types of saliva tests and their preference for the type of test administered.

The use of Raman spectroscopy, particularly surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), offers a powerful tool for analyzing biochemical changes in biofluids. This study aims to assess the modifications occurring in saliva collected from patients before and after exposure to cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and computed tomography (CT) imaging. SERS analysis revealed significantly amplified spectra in post-imaging samples compared to pre-imaging samples, with pronounced intensification of thiocyanate and opiorphin bands, which, together with proteins, dominated the spectra.

This study assessed the susceptibility to staining and surface roughness of white-spot lesions (WSLs) treated with resin infiltration (RIT) and microabrasion (MA) under simulated aging through thermocycling in red wine. Seventy-eight extracted human premolars with artificial WSLs were divided into three groups: untreated WSLs (control), RIT-treated (ICON, DMG), and MA-treated (Opalustre, Ultradent). Each group was further split: one subgroup immersed in artificial saliva and the other thermocycled in red wine.
