The medullary raphé nuclei participate in the regulation of breathing and airway defensive reflexes. Our focus was to analyze the effects of codeine and kainic acid within the medullary raphé on coughing, sneezing, solitary expulsions, and concomitant breathing changes using models of anesthetized cats (n=12) and rabbits (n=15) and microinjection techniques. Our findings are consistent with (1) involvement of neurons within the medullary raphé in the generation of the cough motor pattern by a codeine-sensitive and -insensitive mechanisms, (2) a contribution of raphé nuclei to the control of expiratory efforts, (3) limited contribution of the medullary raphé to the cough-gating mechanism, (4) minor contribution of respiration/coughing neuronal network, including the portion within raphé nuclei and the respiratory/cough central pattern generator, to the production of the sneeze reflex motor pattern.

Disrupted feeding and fasting cycles as well as chronic high fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity are associated with cardiovascular disease risk factors. We designed studies that determined whether two weeks of time-restricted feeding (TRF) intervention in mice fed a chronic HFD would reduce cardiovascular disease risk factors. Mice were fed a normal diet (ND; 10% fat) ad libitum or HFD (45% fat) for 18 weeks ad libitum to establish diet-induced obesity.

Introduction: Immunoglobulin D (IgD) myeloma is a rare subtype often described as aggressive with advanced disease at diagnosis. Primary renal involvement is seen in scarce cases.
Observation: This case features a 55-year-old man with IgD lambda myeloma presenting severe renal failure at diagnosis.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance for medullary thyroid cancer (MTC) based on the 2017 Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System by the American College of Radiology (ACR TI-RADS) guideline, and the ability to recommend fine needle aspiration (FNA) for MTC.
Methods: Fifty-six MTCs were included, and 168 benign thyroid nodules (BTNs) and 168 papillary thyroid nodules (PTCs) were matched according to age. Ultrasound (US) features were reviewed according to ACR TI-RADS.

Incidental adrenal masses are frequently detected due to the extensive use of cross-sectional imaging, with about 3% to 7% of adults estimated to have them. Paragangliomas and pheochromocytomas (PPGL), rare tumors originating from paraganglia tissues, including the adrenal medulla, continue to be imaging mimics, necessitating a multimodal approach for accurate diagnosis. We report a case of 72-years male presenting with intermittent pain abdomen for the past 1 year.

A hyalinizing trabecular tumor (HTT), characterized by a trabecular growth pattern and notable hyalinization within the trabeculae, occurs at a rate of ~1%. As patients with HTT may be asymptomatic, accurate diagnosis is a challenge. Due to its resemblance to other tumors, such as papillary thyroid carcinoma and medullary thyroid carcinoma, a precise diagnosis necessitates both pathological and molecular examinations.
