Light-controlled molecular alignment is a flexible and useful strategy introducing novelty in the fields of mechanics, self-organized structuring, mass transport, optics, and photonics and addressing the development of smart optical devices. Azobenzene-containing polymers are well-known photocontrollable materials with large and reversible photoinduced optical anisotropies. The vectorial holography applied to these materials enables peculiar optical devices whose properties strongly depend on the relative values of the photoinduced birefringences. Here is reported a polarization holographic recording based on the interference of two waves with orthogonal linear polarization on a bifunctional amorphous polymer that, exceptionally, exhibits equal values of linear and circular birefringence. The peculiar photoresponse of the material coupled with the holographic technique demonstrates an optical device capable of decomposing the light into a set of orthogonally polarized linear components. The holographic structures are theoretically described by the Jones matrices method and experimentally investigated.

The development of electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is one of the most critical issues for improving the efficiency of electrochemical water-splitting, which can produce green hydrogen energy without CO emissions. This review outlines the advances in the precise design of inorganic- and organic-based porous electrocatalysts, which are designed by various strategies, to catalyze the OER in the electrolytic cycle for efficient water-splitting. For developing high-performance electrocatalysts with low overpotentials, it is important to design a chemical composition that optimizes binding energy for an intermediate in the OER and allows the easy access of reactants to active sites depending on the porosity of electrocatalysts.

This paper proposes a method for synthesizing granular ZSM-23 zeolite with a high degree of crystallinity and hierarchical porous structure. This method is based on crystallizing granules composed of powdered ZSM-23 zeolite and a specially prepared amorphous aluminosilicate. It has been shown that these granules have superior mechanical strength compared to granular zeolite-containing materials, which are made from a mixture of ZSM-23 zeolite crystals and AlO.

During electrocatalytic water splitting, surface reconstruction often occurs to generate truly active species for catalytic reactions, but the stability and mass activity of the catalysts is a huge challenge. A method that combines cation doping with morphology control strategies and constructs an amorphous-crystalline heterostructure is proposed to achieve deep reconstruction of the catalyst during the electrochemical activation process, thereby significantly improving catalytic activity and stability. Amorphous iron borate (FeBO) is deposited on cobalt-doped nickel sulfide (Co-NiS) crystals to form ultrathin nanosheet heterostructures (FeBO/Co-NiS) as bifunctional electrocatalysts for the OER and methanol oxidation reaction (MOR).

The use of efficient and affordable non-precious metal catalysts for hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions is vital for replacing and widely implementing new energy sources. Nevertheless, improving the catalytic performance of these non-precious-metal bifunctional electrocatalysts continues to be a major challenge. In this article, an optimized Se-incorporated bulk CoS@MoS heterostructure grown on the surface of carbon nanotubes is reported.

Advanced electrocatalysts capable of bifunctional catalysis for formic acid oxidation (FAOR) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) have garnered significant attention due to their exceptional energy efficiency. In this research, we have meticulously designed a PdCu bimetallene characterized by numerous crystalline/amorphous (c/a) interfaces and robust d-sp orbital hybridization, achieved by integrating the p-block metalloid boron within the PdCu matrix (B-PdCu-c/a). The B-PdCu-c/a bimetallene revealed a multitude of surface atoms and unsaturated defect sites, offering abundant catalytic active sites and an optimized electronic structure.
