Background: If the GFR falls far enough, uremic symptoms such as anorexia and nausea prompt the initiation of dialysis. Thrice weekly hemodialysis can prevent recurrence of these symptoms even when patients become anuric. To accomplish this it must maintain the plasma levels of the uremic solutes which cause these symptoms lower than they were when dialysis was initiated.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAmylin analogs, including potential anti-obesity therapies like cagrilintide, act on neurons in the brainstem dorsal vagal complex (DVC) that express calcitonin receptors (CALCR). These receptors, often combined with receptor activity-modifying proteins (RAMPs), mediate the suppression of food intake and body weight. To understand the molecular and neural mechanisms of cagrilintide action, we used single-nucleus RNA sequencing to define 89 cell populations across the rat, mouse, and non-human primate caudal brainstem.

Background: Malnutrition is common with esophagogastric cancers and is associated with negative outcomes. We aimed to evaluate if immunonutrition during neoadjuvant treatment improves patient's health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and reduces postoperative morbidity and toxicities during neoadjuvant treatment.
Methods: A multicenter double-blind randomized controlled trial (RCT) was undertaken.

Many rodent models are available for preclinical diabetes research making it a challenge for researchers to choose the most appropriate one for their experimental question. To aid in this, models have classically been categorized according to which type of diabetes they represent, and further into whether the model is induced, spontaneous or the result of genetic manipulation. This fails to capture the complexity of pathogenesis seen in diabetes in humans.

Mitochondria derive the majority of their lipids from other organelles through contact sites. These lipids, primarily phosphoglycerolipids, are the main components of mitochondrial membranes. In the cell, neutral lipids like triacylglycerides (TAGs) are stored in lipid droplets, playing an important role in maintaining cellular health.
