Adolescence and the journey to adulthood involves exciting opportunities as well as psychosocial stress for young people growing up. These normal experiences are potentially magnified for teenagers living with chronic illness or disability and their families. Advances in care have improved survival for children with a variety of serious chronic medical conditions such that many who may once have died in childhood now survive well into adulthood with ongoing morbidity.

Introduction: Equitable and safe access to abortion is essential for reproductive autonomy. Despite decriminalization in 1988, barriers to accessing abortion in Canada persist, particularly for people in underserved groups. Doulas, working in a non-clinical and unregulated supportive role, may facilitate access to family planning services, but evidence about the scope, role, training, and efficacy of doulas in abortion care is lacking.

ConspectusPyridine is a crucial heterocyclic compound in organic chemistry. Typically, the pyridine motif behaves as an N-nucleophile and an electron-deficient aromatic ring. Transforming the pyridine ring into an electron-rich system that exhibits reactivity contrary to classical expectations could unveil new opportunities in pyridine chemistry.

This research article describes the thermal and sonochemical enhancements of 1,3-diol protection, via acetal formation, catalyzed by a biomass-derived heterogeneous catalyst. This investigation was also conducted under the framework of a postgraduate program in green chemistry, and the application of ultrasonic activation represented an opportunity to expose the field to junior colleagues unaware of sonochemistry. Accordingly, we show not only a facile and high-yielding synthetic transformation, but also the pluses of performing a parallel protocol using low-frequency ultrasound, which provided new learning tools and skills in context.
