Purpose: Myelodysplastic neoplasms (MDS) are heterogeneous neoplasms that originate from bone marrow (BM) hematopoietic stem cells. S100A8 and S100A9 (S100A8/9) are crucial molecules involved in the innate immune pathogenesis of MDS. This study aimed to explore the value of these molecules in the differential diagnosis of MDS, and analyze the correlations between their concentrations and clinical characteristics.

Lung cancer, particularly adenocarcinoma, ranks high in morbidity and mortality rates worldwide, with a relatively low five-year survival rate. To achieve precise prognostic assessment and clinical intervention for patients, thereby enhancing their survival prospects, there is an urgent need for more accurate stratification schemes. Currently, the TNM staging system is predominantly used in clinical practice for prognostic evaluation, but its accuracy is constrained by the reliance on physician experience.

The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), an easily obtainable marker of inflammation, may predict sarcopenia risk. To determine the correlations between six serological inflammatory markers, namely the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI), aggregate index of systemic inflammation (AISI), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), and various stages of type 2 diabetic retinopathy (T2DR). Additionally, the diagnostic value of these markers in T2DR was evaluated. Clinical data were collected from a total of 397 patients with type 2 diabetes who visited the ophthalmology department at Mian Yang Central Hospital and the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University from January 2023 to December 2023.

We describe a rare case of spontaneous remission of Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PCP) in a 42-year-old patient with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, followed by severe pulmonary nocardiosis. To our knowledge, this is the first report of spontaneous remission of PCP in a completely untreated patient with HIV infection. The patient, a bisexual Japanese man, presented with fever and anorexia and had a history of non-compliance with antiretroviral therapy (ART) for 13 years.
