For this special issue, the latest research findings on the topic of families living with parental psychiatric disabilities were solicited and compiled, to inform policymakers and practitioners with the best research available, while informing researchers about new developments in the field. The creative efforts of practitioners on the ground who strategically cobble together service responses for parents and families, as well as the extraordinary efforts of parents, adult children, young carers, and advocates who continue to bring attention to family issues in psychiatric rehabilitation, are applauded. These things are happening as we build the evidence base. That is, we are "crossing the bridge" to evidence-based practice while we are "building it." This is not without its challenges, in policy, practice, or research. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2014 APA, all rights reserved).

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common malignant primary brain cancer with poor prognosis due to the resistant to current treatments, including the first-line drug temozolomide (TMZ). Accordingly, it is urgent to clarify the mechanism of chemotherapeutic resistance to improve the survival rate of patients. In the present study, by integrating comprehensive non-coding RNA-seq data from multiple cohorts of GBM patients, we identified that a series of miRNAs are frequently downregulated in GBM patients compared with the control samples.

Introduction: The main treatment for Chronic Mesenteric Ischemia (CMI) is revascularization, typically achieved through stent angioplasty of the superior mesenteric artery, and in certain cases, the celiac trunk. However, long-term outcomes using bare-metal stents have been less than satisfactory. Therefore, we aimed to compare the performance of covered stents (CS) versus bare-metal stents (BMS) in patients treated for CMI.

Novel nutrition strategies in gastric and esophageal cancer.

Expert Rev Gastroenterol Hepatol

Department of Surgery, Trinity St. James's Cancer Institute, Dublin, Ireland.

Introduction: Advances in treatment strategies for gastric and esophageal cancer have led to improved long-term outcomes, however the local and systemic effects of tumor growth, neoadjuvant therapies and surgery, results in specific nutritional challenges. Comprehensive nutritional evaluation and support represents a core component of multidisciplinary holistic care for this patient population.

Areas Covered: This review provides a detailed overview of the nutritional challenges in gastric and esophageal cancer, with a focus on malignant obstruction, preoperative optimization and nutrition in survivorship.

It has been hypothesized that DNA damage has the potential to induce DNA hypermethylation, contributing to carcinogenesis in mammals. However, there is no sufficient evidence to support that DNA damage can cause genome-wide DNA hypermethylation. Here, we demonstrated that DNA single-strand breaks with 3'-blocked ends (DNA 3'-blocks) can not only reinforce DNA methylation at normally methylated loci but also can induce DNA methylation at normally nonmethylated loci in plants.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is identified as a risk factor for Parkinson's disease (PD), which is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra (SN). However, the precise mechanism by which chronic TBI initiates PD pathogenesis is not yet fully understood. In our present study, we assessed the chronic progression and pathogenesis of PD-like behavior at different intervals in TBI mice.
