A case series on the basic concept and design of removable partial dentures: support and bracing considerations.

BMC Oral Health

January 2025

Department of Removable Prosthodontics, School of Dentistry, Aichi Gakuin University, 2-11 Suemori- dori, Chikusa-ku, Nagoya, Aichi, 464-8651, Japan.

Background: When designing removable partial dentures, maximizing the effectiveness of support and bracing is necessary to minimize denture movement. Therefore, it is essential to emphasize the importance of providing patients with appropriate, safe, and secure removable partial dentures and have clinicians rerecognize the concept and importance of support and bracing. This study aimed to present extension-base removable partial dentures through six specific clinical case series and describe the effect of support and bracing action on denture design, which is essential for denture movement minimization.

The objective of this study was to tailor an osteoinductive scaffold for alveolar bone regeneration and around immediately placed implants in extraction sockets of dogs. Tailored amorphous multiporous bioactive glass (TAMP -BG) was prepared and characterized for bioactivity and response of human alveolar bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hABMSCs). Extraction sockets of twenty-two male mongrel dogs received TAMP-BG in the right side around implant in the distal socket of the mandibular fourth premolar (P4), while the adjacent empty mesial socket of the same tooth was filled with the same graft.

Evaluating the effectiveness and survival rates of space maintainers is crucial for optimal pediatric dental care. The present study's goal is to evaluate the survival rate of different types of space maintainers-removable, fixed with a metal base, or fixed with a resin base-indicated for children as a consequence of premature loss of primary teeth. A systematic review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA recommendations and was previously registered in PROSPERO under registration number: CRD42024534183.

The disinfectant effects of portable ultraviolet light devices and their application to dentures.

Photodiagnosis Photodyn Ther

December 2024

Department of Fixed Prosthodontics and Orofacial Function, Graduate School of Dentistry, Osaka University, Suita, Japan.

Interest in ultraviolet (UV) light devices for disinfection has increased due to pandemic concerns, but their efficacy in denture disinfection is underexplored. This study evaluated seven-enclosed type portable UV irradiation devices (devices A-G). Among these, devices A, B, and C used bulb light sources, while devices D, E, F, and G utilized LED (light-emitting diode) light sources.

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of repetitive removal/insertion and a load equivalent to the occlusal force on the retentive force of rest plate-I bar (RPI) clasps fabricated by selective laser melting (SLM) on powder bed fusion. RPI clasp fabricated by SLM and casting were evaluated to the retentive force by repetitive removal/insertion (SLM-RI and Cast-RI), and the retentive force of RPI clasp by SLM was also evaluated by repetitive removal/insertion under load (SLM-L). SLM-RI group was kept superior retentive force during repetitive removal/insertion than Cast-RI group.
