Background: Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI) is reported to be useful for detecting malignant lesions. The purpose of this study is to clarify characteristics of imaging, detection rate and sensitivity of DWI for recurrence or metastasis of lung cancer.

Methods: A total of 36 lung cancer patients with recurrence or metastasis were enrolled in this study. While 16 patients underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT), 17 underwent MRI and CT, and 3 underwent MRI and PET-CT.

Results: Each recurrence or metastasis showed decreased diffusion, which was easily recognized in DWI. The detection rate for recurrence or metastasis was 100% (36/36) in DWI, 89% (17/19) in PET-CT and 82% (27/33) in CT. Detection rate of DWI was significantly higher than that of CT (p=0.0244) but not significantly higher than that of PET-CT (p=0.22). When the optimal cutoff value of the apparent diffusion coefficient value was set as 1.70?10-3 mm2/sec, the sensitivity of DWI for diagnosing recurrence or metastasis of lung cancer was 95.6%.

Conclusions: DWI is useful for detection of recurrence and metastasis of lung cancer.

Patterns of lymph node metastasis and long-term outcomes of splenic flexure colon cancer: a descriptive study from a Japanese high-volume center.

Surg Today

January 2025

Department of Gastroenterological Surgery, Cancer Institute Hospital, Japanese Foundation for Cancer Research, 3-8-31, Ariake, Koto-Ku, Tokyo, 135-8550, Japan.

Purpose: The pattern of lymph node metastasis and the appropriate extent of lymph node dissection in splenic flexure colon cancer remain unclear. This study aimed to describe the clinical characteristics, lymph node metastasis patterns, and oncological outcomes of patients with splenic flexure colon cancer.

Methods: The data of patients with splenic flexure cancer diagnosed with pathological stages I-III were extracted from a hospital database.

Lysosome-targeting chimeras (LYTACs) have recently emerged as a promising therapeutic strategy for degrading extracellular and membrane-associated pathogenic proteins by hijacking lysosome-targeting receptors. However, the antitumor performance of LYTAC is limited by its insufficient tumor accumulation and nonspecific activation. Additionally, the synergistic effects of LYTACs and other therapeutic modalities are crucial.

Background: Compared to colorectal cancer (CRC) in adults, CRC in children is extremely rare. Although its incidence has increased recently, there is a lack of clinical research on the disease. Inherited cancer susceptibility syndromes (ICSS), a group of disorders in which patients are predisposed to susceptibility to a wide range of tumors as a result of pathogenic mutations in genes in their germ line, are an important cause of CRC in children.

Department of Respiratory Medicine, Yantai Affiliated Hospital, Yantai Yuhuangding Hospital, Qingdao University, Yantai, P.R. China.

Background: Small cell lung cancer is sensitive to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, but local recurrence and distant metastasis occur shortly after treatment. This study aimed to evaluate the real-world value of anlotinib as a maintenance therapy in patients with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC) after first-line chemotherapy and consolidative thoracic radiotherapy (CTRT).

Patients And Methods: A total of 150 patients with ES-SCLC treated with first-line chemotherapy and CTRT from April 2017 to December 2021 were retrospectively analyzed.

We aim to compare the clinical outcomes of radical nephroureterectomy with bladder cuff removal (RNU) and segmental resection with ureteral reimplantation (RR) in Chinese patients with distal ureteral urothelial carcinoma. A retrospective analysis of medical records was performed for 922 patients found to have distal ureteral cancer, defined as below the level of the iliac vessels, with 747 patients who underwent RNU and 175 who underwent RR included in the final analysis. The primary endpoints included clinical outcomes and changes in the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR).
