An electromechanical resonator harboring an atomlike spectrum of discrete mechanical vibrations, namely, phonon modes, has been developed. A purely mechanical three-mode system becomes available in the electromechanical atom in which the energy difference of the two higher modes is resonant with a long-lived lower mode. Our measurements reveal that even an incoherent input into the higher mode results in coherent emission in the lower mode that exhibits all the hallmarks of phonon lasing in a process that is reminiscent of Brillouin lasing.

This study aims to achieve an ultralow lasing threshold in CsPbBr microplates (MPs), a crucial step toward developing electrically driven micro/nanolasers for optics integrated chips. We investigate the lasing behavior of CsPbBr MPs under varying pressures by using static-state photoluminescence (PL), time-resolved PL (TRPL), and first-principles theory calculations based on density functional theory (DFT). Our results reveal that the lasing threshold initially decreases and then increases, with a critical turning point at 0.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study challenges the common belief that strong longitudinal-optical (LO) phonon coupling is the main cause of line broadening in m-plane GaN terahertz quantum cascade lasers (THz QCLs) by reconsidering its impact on carrier transport.
  • - By using non-equilibrium Green's functions (NEGF), the researchers found that at higher doping levels, the LO-phonon coupling is not the primary driver of line broadening, and increasing doping significantly enhances gain potential.
  • - The findings indicate that m-plane two-well GaN THz QCLs could achieve lasing near room temperature at 7.2 THz with only 14% aluminum in the barriers, highlighting the technology's

The pseudomagnetic field effect may offer unique opportunities for the emergence of intriguing phenomena. To date, investigations into pseudomagnetic field effects on phonons have been limited to sound waves in metamaterials. The revelation of this exotic effect on the atomic vibration of natural materials remains elusive.

Pulse-doubling perovskite nanowire lasers enabled by phonon-assisted multistep energy funneling.

Laser pulse multiplication from an optical gain medium has shown great potential in miniaturizing integrated optoelectronic devices. Perovskite multiple quantum wells (MQWs) structures have recently been recognized as an effective gain media capable of doubling laser pulses that do not rely on external optical equipment. Although the light amplifications enabled with pulse doubling are reported based on the perovskite MQWs thin films, the micro-nanolasers possessed a specific cavity for laser pulse multiplication and their corresponding intrinsic laser dynamics are still inadequate.

Yellow lasers at 590 nm have many extensive applications in our daily life, but extremely difficult to attain by traditional solid-state laser technology, owing to the absence of highly-efficient transition channels at this spectral range. In this work, we proposed a cooperative lasing mechanism to obtain the yellow light emission, with multiphonon-assisted electronic transitions and phase-matched frequency-doubling. Based on the predictable configurational coordinate model, we can calculate the multiphonon-assisted emission step-by-step.
