Purpose: To compare the measured resection technique and the gap balancing technique for correction of the femoral rotational alignment.
Methods: 57 women and 6 men (mean age, 70 years) with end-stage osteoarthritis and <15º malalignment and <10º flexion contracture of the knee underwent primary total knee arthroplasty through the medial approach using the measured resection technique (n=34) or the gap balancing technique (n=29). Femoral rotational alignment was evaluated before and 7 days after surgery using computed tomography by referencing the 2 posterior condyles to the transepicondylar axis.
Results: The 2 groups did not differ significantly in terms of correction of the femoral rotational alignment (3.4º ± 1.4º vs. 3.5º ± 3.1º, p=0.817).
Conclusion: The measured resection and the gap balancing techniques achieved comparable correction of femoral rotational alignment.

Endocrine surgery in multimorbid, frail and geriatric patients is increasing, is often urgent and characterized by special risk constellations. Successful parathyroid gland surgery nearly always results in a marked improvement, irrespective of the specific risk profile of the patient. Except for critical intubation and mediastinal interventions in the risk profile, surgery of the thyroid glands is predominantly beneficial and justifiable even in frail patients.

Extensive congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM) of the left fetal lung and associated marked dextroposition of the fetal heart were noted at 21 weeks' gestation. The right fetal lung appeared compressed with the cardiomediastinal shift angle measuring approximately 20 degrees. Potential subsequent right pulmonary hypoplasia was considered.

The outcome of tooth autotransplantation depends mainly on the transplant tooth's anatomy-the type of donor tooth and the developmental stage of root formation. Mature teeth display a higher complication rate due to lower pulp revascularization potential, requiring root canal treatment (RCT) pre- or postoperatively to avoid postoperative complications, which extends treatment duration and cost. This report details a 39-year-old patient's autotransplantation of a mature wisdom tooth to replace the first molar after unsuccessful root canal retreatment.

However, when a 2 mm compensation is systematically used on the worn side, the variability in cartilage thickness in the unworn compartment might alter the accuracy of the technique. This study aimed to validate two intraoperative femoral cartilage thickness measurement techniques by comparing them to the photographic method, which measures cartilage thickness through pixel analysis of bone-cut images.

Background The incidence of margin re-excision following breast conserving surgery (BCS) is a quality measure in the National Health Service. The threshold is less than 20% of all BCS procedures. Despite three decades of studies and a wealth of literature identifying multiple factors associated with increased risk for margin involvement, an accepted threshold rate affecting one in five procedures remains high.
