Stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD1 gene) is an enzyme responsible for the endogenous conversion of saturated fatty acid into monounsaturated fatty acids. The objective of this study was to assess the association of a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the SCD1 gene with the fatty acid composition of beef intramuscular fat of a Spanish commercial bull population (n = 155) finished with two different diets. The results suggested that the marker could be used as a candidate gene to obtain a healthier final product.

Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, State Key Laboratory of Efficient Production of Forest Resources, Engineering Research Center of Forestry Biomass Materials and Bioenergy (Ministry of Education), Beijing Forestry University, Beijing 100083, China. Electronic address:

Galactomannan comes from a wide range of plant resources and has some biological activities, but its bioavailability is limited due to its large molecular weight and complex structure. In this study, three degradation methods (HO, ultrasound, and β-mannanase) combined with ethanol fractional precipitation (25 %, 50 %, and 75 %) were used to degrade and separate Gleditsia sinensis galactomannans (GSG), and the physicochemical properties and biological activities of GSG after degradation were analyzed. Comprehensive comparison indicates that HO exhibits had a better degradation effect.

Singapore grouper iridovirus (SGIV) is a significant infectious disease in the grouper aquaculture industry. Currently, there is no effective drug available to prevent or treat SGIV. Oridonin (Ori) is a naturally occurring compound derived from Rabdosia rubescens, exhibiting various biological activities, including anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties.

Previous studies have confirmed that burns and scalds can lead to metabolic disorders in the liver. However, the effects of severe burns at various time points on liver lipid metabolism disorders, as well as the relationship between these disorders and liver function, metabolism, and infection, have not yet been investigated. This study established a SD rat scald model, macroscopic observation of weight changes, histological staining, Western blot detection of fat browning and metabolic indicators, reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction analysis of the expression of liver new fat generation genes, determination of liver function and inflammatory indicators.

Electronic address:

Hepatic de novo lipogenesis (DNL) is increased by both carbohydrate intake and protein consumption. In hepatic fat synthesis, a key role is played by the induction of the hepatic expression of lipogenic genes, including Fasn, Scd1, and Srebf1. Regarding carbohydrate intake, increased blood glucose and insulin levels promote the expression of hepatic lipogenic genes.

Abnormalities in lipid metabolism and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress are strongly associated with the development of a multitude of pathological conditions, including nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), diabetes mellitus, and obesity. Previous studies have indicated a potential connection between thyroid hormone responsive ( and lipid metabolism and that ER stress may participate in the synthesis of key regulators of adipogenesis. However, the specific mechanisms remain to be investigated.
