Published: September 2014

Seven new limonoids, namely, xylorumphiins E-J (1-2 and 4-7) and 2-hydroxyxylorumphiin F (3), along with three known derivatives (8-10), were isolated from the seeds of Xylocarpus rumphii. 2-Hydroxyxylorumphiin F (3) and xylorumphiin I (6) displayed moderate inhibitory activity against nitric oxide production from lipopolysaccharide-activated macrophages with IC50 values of 24.5 and 31.3 μM, respectively.

Ten new limonoids, named xylomolones E-N (1-10), and two new protolimonoids, named xylomolones O (11) and P (12), were isolated from seeds of the Thai mangrove Xylocarpus moluccensis, together with the known compound, hispidone acetonide (13). The structures of these compounds were established by extensive NMR spectroscopic data, single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, and comparison of experimental ECD spectra. The absolute configurations of xylomolones E (1) and L (8) were unambiguously determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses, conducted with Cu Kα radiation.

Ten new limonoids, named xylomolins O-X, were isolated from seeds of the mangrove Xylocarpus moluccensis, collected in the mangrove swamp of Trang Province, Thailand. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of comprehensive spectroscopic data analysis. The absolute configurations of five compounds (1, 3, 8-10) were unequivocally determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses, conducted with Cu Kα radiation.

The potential application of , a mangrove species, as traditional medicine has been widely linked to its high secondary metabolite and antioxidant contents. However, few studies have been reported to identify and classify active metabolites responsible for such excellent biological activities. Therefore, the aim of this work was to determine the antioxidant activity, identify the metabolite profiles, and predict the metabolites acting as antioxidants in extract using a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS)-based metabolomics approach.

Six new limonoids, named hainanxylogranolides A-F (1-6), together with nineteen known ones (7-25) were isolated from the seeds of a Hainan mangrove Xylocarpus granatum. The structures of the new compounds were established by extensive NMR spectroscopic data combined with the DFT and TDDFT calculated electronic circular dichroism spectra. Hainanxylogranolide A (1) is the aromatic B-ring limonoid containing a central pyridine ring and a C-17 substituted γ(21)-hydroxybutenolide moiety.
