Experiments were performed to study the fitness at the Odh locus in Drosophila melanogaster. Populations previously treated with alcohol (5% in the medium) were transferred to media containing more (10%) or no alcohol. Odh genotype frequencies of second instar larvae and mature adults were determined in each generation. Selection appeared at a significant level in both experimental populations. Net fitness and larva-to-adult survival were investigated. To interpret our results the constant and frequency-dependent models of selection were tested. Both larva-to-adult survival and net fitness were found to be significantly correlated with genotype frequencies. Thus the frequency-dependence of net fitness was due to the larva-to-adult survival.

The cotton mealybug, Tinsley (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae), is an invasive polyphagous pest that has been reported in several tomato-producing Mediterranean countries. However, information regarding the impact of temperature variations on its potential damage and population dynamics on this crop is limited. The effect of four temperatures (20 ± 1 °C, 25 ± 1 °C, 30 ± 1 °C and 35 ± 1 °C) on the development, reproduction, and population growth parameters of on tomatoes under controlled laboratory conditions was investigated using age-stage two-sex life tables.

Recombination plays a key role in increasing the efficacy of selection. We investigate whether recombination can also play a role in resolving adaptive conflicts at loci coding for traits shared between the sexes. Errors during recombination events resulting in gene duplications may provide a long-term evolutionary advantage if those loci also experience sexually antagonistic (SA) selection since, after duplication, sex-specific expression profiles will be free to evolve, thereby reducing the load on population fitness and resolving the conflict.

Insecticide resistance in natural enemies can be used as a positive trait in integrated pest management programs by increasing the compatibility of two important tools; biological and chemical control. In this experiment, a field population of Chrysoperla carnea (Stephens) (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) was selected with chlorantraniliprole for 35 generations (Chlor-Sel) developed a 100.32-fold resistance level compared to an unselected population (Unsel).

Aim: This study aimed to compare the prognostic performance of the risk models for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) receiving atezolizumab and bevacizumab (Atez/Bev) as first-line treatment.
Methods: Among 449 patients included in this retrospective multicenter study, we compared the prognostic performance of 13 risk models for the 12-month and 18-month survival status using area under the curve (AUC), net reclassification improvement (NRI), and relative integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) analysis. We also constructed a calibration plot to assess the fitness of each model.

Background: Physical fitness and functioning are related to better mental health in older age. However, which fitness components (body composition, strength, flexibility, coordination, and endurance) are more closely related to psychological well-being (PWB) is unclear.
Methods: This research examined how body mass index (BMI) and six indices of functional fitness (i.
