Eukaryotic genome size varies considerably, even among closely related species. The causes of this variation are unclear, but weak selection against supposedly costly "extra" genomic sequences has been central to the debate for over 50 years. The mutational hazard hypothesis, which focuses on the increased mutation rate to null alleles in superfluous sequences, is particularly influential, though challenging to test.

Information on the age of vertebrate species such as sea turtles is crucial for planning management and conservation actions. The age of sea turtles has been estimated by skeletochronological analysis using skeletal growth marks in different bones. This study focused on the consistency of the number of visible lines of arrested growth (LAG) observed from the humerus and phalanx bone used for age estimation in Chelonia mydas and Caretta caretta.

Objective: Patients with uncontrolled gout have few treatment options. Pegloticase lowers serum urate (SU) levels, but antidrug antibodies limit SU-lowering response and increase infusion reaction (IR) risk. Methotrexate (MTX) cotherapy increases pegloticase response rates and lowers IR risk in pegloticase-naïve patients.

Background And Objective: Positive surgical margins (PSMs) following radical prostatectomy (RP) have been seen as inherently unfavorable. However, a large international multi-institutional study recently revealed that unifocal PSMs (UPSMs) had no impact on prostate cancer-specific mortality (PCSM), whereas multifocal PSMs (MPSMs) did. Our aim was to assess the relative impact of PSMs versus percentage tumor volume (PTV) on PCSM.

Ranger patrols are essential for biodiversity conservation, particularly in protected areas where they help mitigate poaching of large mammals. Effective patrols reduce poaching and support higher population densities of large mammals. This study investigates the impact of ranger patrols on large mammal sightings in the Central Alborz Protected Area (CAPA), northern Iran, a crucial wildlife corridor with UNESCO-listed Hyrcanian forests and high-altitude grasslands.
