Purpose: This study aims to explore possible associations between polymorphisms of common SNP rs1136410 and rS1805405 in PARP1 gene and male infertility with spermatogenesis impairment.

Methods: The polymorphic distributions of SNP rs1136410 and rS1805405 were investigated by polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis in a Chinese cohort including 371 infertile patients with idiopathic azoospermia or oligospermia and 231 controls.

Results: Significant differences in the frequencies of allele and genotype of SNP rs1136410 were observed between patients with oligospermia and controls. The allele C (46.3 % vs. 36.4 %, P = 0.003) and genotype CC (22.6 % vs. 13.4 %, P = 0.014) significantly increased, whereas genotype TT (30 % vs. 40.7 %, P = 0.021) significantly decreased in patients with oligospermia compared with controls at this SNP locus.

Conclusions: These results indicated that genotype CC of SNP rs1136410 may increase the risk of oligosoermia and genotype TT of rs1136410 may have some protective effect from oligospermia, suggesting that the polymorphism of SNP rs1136410 in PARP1 gene may modify the susceptibility to male infertility with oligospermia.

DNA repair system plays a crucial role in maintaining genomic integrity and stability and in protecting against cancer. Poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1) functions as a key enzyme in the base excision repair (BER) pathway. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) that could affect the function or expression of PARP1 gene might be associated with the risk of cancer.

Objective: The carcinogenesis role of PARP1 in lung cancer is still not clear. Analysis at allelic levels cannot fully explain the function of PARP1 on lung cancer. Our study aims to further explore the relation between PARP1 haplotypes and lung cancer.

Poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase-1 (PARP-1) is a nuclear chromatin-associated enzyme involved in the DNA damage response. SNP rs1136410 C>T, the most studied polymorphism in PARP-1 gene, is highly implicated in the susceptibility of cancer. However, the roles of PARP-1 rs1136410 C>T on cancer risk vary from different studies.

Objectives: To evaluate the association of allelic and genotypic frequencies of PSCA (rs2976392), TNF-α (rs1800629), PARP1 (rs1136410) and TP53 (rs368771578) SNPs with GC susceptibility in a Brazilian population.

Materials And Methods: This is a retrospective study, which included 102 paraffin-embedded adenocarcinoma tissue samples > 5 years of obtention, with 204 alleles for each studied SNP. Other 102 healthy tissue samples were included as controls.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers looked at specific genetic variations (SNPs) in three genes related to telomere length and their connection to PCa risk through a case-control study.
  • * Two SNPs (rs2297441 and rs3208008) were found to increase the risk of PCa, while another SNP (rs1136410) was associated with changes in telomere length, indicating that genetic factors influencing telomere length may impact PCa risk.
