The cytochrome CYP1A1 gene has been implicated in the etiology of oral cancer. However, the results have been inconsistent. In this study, a meta-analysis was performed to clarify the associations of polymorphisms in CYP1A1 gene with oral cancer risk. Published literatures from PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and China National Knowledge infrastructure (CNKI) databases were retrieved. A total of 12 studies were included in this meta-analysis. We found that significant positive associations between CYP1A1*2A polymorphism and oral cancer risk in recessive model (CC vs. TC + TT, OR = 1.93), dominant model (CC + TC vs. TT, OR = 1.33), and additive model (CC vs. TT, OR = 1.97). In subgroup analysis based on the ethnicity of study population, significant associations were found in all three genetic models for Asians (recessive OR = 2.29, 95% CI = .42-3.71; dominant OR = 1.54, 95% CI = 1.03-2.31; additive OR 2.39, 95% CI = 1.47-3.88) but not non-Asians. For the smoking stratification, the result indicated a significant association between CYP1A1*2A polymorphism and oral cancer among the smoking subjects (OR = 1.83, 95% CI = 1.47-2.26). This meta-analysis indicated a marked association of CYP1A1*2A polymorphisms with oral cancer risk, particularly among Asians, whereas there were significant interactions between the polymorphisms and cigarette smoking on oral cancer risk.

Background: For decades, poor treatment options and low-quality evidence plagued care for patients with rifampin-resistant tuberculosis. The advent of new drugs to treat tuberculosis and enhanced funding now permit randomized, controlled trials of shortened-duration, all-oral treatments for rifampin-resistant tuberculosis.
Methods: We conducted a phase 3, multinational, open-label, randomized, controlled noninferiority trial to compare standard therapy for treatment of fluoroquinolone-susceptible, rifampin-resistant tuberculosis with five 9-month oral regimens that included various combinations of bedaquiline (B), delamanid (D), linezolid (L), levofloxacin (Lfx) or moxifloxacin (M), clofazimine (C), and pyrazinamide (Z).

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the role of transmembrane emp24 domain-containing protein 2 (TMED2) in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).
Methodology: A bioinformatics analysis was first conducted to explore TMED2 expression in OSCC and its relation with overall survival. The analysis results were further verified by assessing TMED2 expression levels in human normal oral keratinocyte cells and human OSCC cell lines using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and the Western blot.

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a serious side effect of anticancer agents with limited effective preventive or therapeutic interventions. Although fenofibrate, a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-alpha (PPARα) agonist, has demonstrated neuroprotective and analgesic properties, its clinical utility is hindered by low receptor affinity, poor subtype selectivity, and suboptimal bioavailability. A190, a highly selective and potent nonfibrate PPARα agonist, offers a promising alternative but is limited by poor aqueous solubility, resulting in reduced oral bioavailability and therapeutic efficacy.
