The fumigant toxicity of Xylopia parviflora (A. Rich.) Benth (Annonaceae) root bark's essential oil (EO) against cowpea seed bruchid, Callosobruchus maculatus, was investigated in the laboratory. Dose had significant (P < 0.0001) effect on mortality at 6 hours after treatment (HAT) at a concentration of 6.25 μL/mL air which exerted 81.70% mortality, while there was no mortality in all other lower doses. At 12 HAT, 75.05% and 90.00% mortality were observed at doses of 3.15 and 6.25 μL/mL air, respectively. It was significantly (P < 0.05) higher than the mortality (50.58%) observed when 0.78 μL/mL air was applied. The lethal time for 50% of assayed adults (LT50) obtained when the bruchid was exposed to X. parviflora EO at a dose of 6.25 μL/mL air (2.71 h) was significantly lower than LT50 obtained at exposure of bruchid to other lower doses of 0.78-3.15 μL/mL air.

In the face of today's ever-evolving global health landscape and ambient assisted living (AAL), marked by the persistent emergence of novel viruses and diseases that impact vulnerable categories and individual safety, the need for innovative disinfection solutions has surged to unprecedented levels. In pursuit of advancing the field of autonomous UV-C disinfection robotics, we conducted two comprehensive state-of-the-art analyses: the first one in the literature and the second one in existing commercial disinfection robots to identify current challenges. Of all of the challenges, we consider the most outstanding ones to be safeguarding humans and animals and understanding the surroundings while operating the disinfection process challenges that we will address in this article.

Objective: Tension Pneumothorax (TP) can occur as a potentially life threatening complication of chest trauma. Both the 2 intercostal space in the midclavicular line (ICS2-MCL) and the 4/5 intercostal space in the anterior axillary line (ICS 4/5-AAL) have been proposed as preferred locations for needle decompression (ND) of a TP. In the present study we aim to determine chest wall thickness (CWT) at ICS2-MCL and ICS4/5-AAL in normal weight-, overweight- and obese patients, and to calculate theoretical success rates of ND for these locations based on standard catheter length.
