Ameloblastoma occurs in a wide variety of forms. Various forms of ameloblastomas have various treatment modalities ranging from a conservative approach to surgical resection with reconstruction. We report a case of unicystic ameloblastoma with mural proliferation in a 17-year-old girl, who presented with a swelling in the lower left jaw associated with dull aching pain and was managed initially by a conservative approach followed by surgical enucleation on recurrence.

Purpose: Current standard of care for ameloblastoma (conventional/unicystic - mural type) usually mandates extensive bone resection that frequently necessitates immediate reconstruction with serious sequelae, especially among young patients. BRAF-mutated ameloblastomas can be targeted by BRAF inhibitors to markedly reduce their size, enabling conservative removal of residual tumor. Ameloblastoma is a true benign odontogenic epithelial tumor, primarily arising in the jaw, and ranks as the second most prevalent odontogenic neoplasm following odontoma. Known for its diverse clinical, radiographic, and histological manifestations, ameloblastoma encompasses a wide spectrum of presentations. Unicystic ameloblastomas (UAs), a less common and generally less aggressive variant, appear as cystic lesions that can mimic ordinary jaw cysts in their clinical and radiologic features.
