A real-world pharmacovigilance analysis of potential ototoxicity associated with sacubitril/valsartan based on FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS).

Sci Rep

Department of Comprehensive Oncology, National Cancer Center/National Clinical Research Center for Cancer/Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, 100021, China.

Sacubitril/valsartan, a first-in-class angiotensin receptor neprilysin inhibitor, is widely used to treat heart failure. Despite its efficacy, sacubitril/valsartan inevitably causes adverse events such as hypotension, renal dysfunction, hyperkalemia, and angioedema. Sacubitril/valsartan-associated ototoxicity is often underreported in clinical studies and real-world settings.

Resveratrol-Loaded Versatile Nanovesicle for Alopecia Therapy via Comprehensive Strategies.

Int J Nanomedicine

December 2024

School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, People's Republic of China.

Introduction: Alopecia is a systemic disease with multiple contributing factors. Effective treatment is challenging when only hair growth mechanisms are targeted while ignoring the role of maintaining hair follicle microenvironment homeostasis, which is crucial for cell growth and angiogenesis. Oxidative stress and inflammation are major disruptors of this microenvironment, leading to inhibited cell proliferation and compromised hair follicle circulation.

Background: Sleep deprivation can lead to increased body weight and blood pressure (BP), but the latent effects of partial sleep deprivation related to required night sentry duties within a short-term period on cardiometabolic characteristic changes in military personnel are unclear.

Aim: To investigate the association between night sentry duty frequency in the past 3 months and cardiometabolic characteristics in armed forces personnel.

Methods: A total of 867 armed forces personnel who were aged 18-39 years and did not take any antihypertensive medications in Taiwan in 2020 were included.

Hypertension remains a significant global health issue, increasingly affecting younger populations due to lifestyle and dietary changes. This case report presents a 28-year-old male diagnosed with primary hyperaldosteronism, a rare but treatable cause of secondary hypertension, presenting as hypertensive urgency. The patient reported persistent headaches and weakness, with an initial blood pressure of 190/120 mmHg and severe hypokalemia.

Background: As the population ages, hypertension has become the leading risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and premature deaths worldwide. Accurate monitoring of CVD risks and planning community-based public health interventions require reliable estimates of hypertension prevalence and management. While the validity of self-reporting in assessing hypertension prevalence has been debated, the concordance between self-reports and clinical measurements of hypertension control remains underexplored, particularly in large, community-based older populations.
